Finished at last.

I just finished IT, and since I've already probably bored you to death talking about IT, all I'm going to say is that IT was practically perfect in every way and IT made my chest go all flittery-fluttery. No but really, IT did move me.

So. Last night I went for a late night run because my mom told me to. There is a hill by my house that overlooks our whole town, so I went to the top and sat down on this public lawn thing that's at the top for awhile. It was so calm, beautiful, and peaceful that I just kind of wanted to stay there forever. If I had brought a phone I would have called my parents and asked if I could sleep there. But I had to get going so they wouldn't become worried. It was a shame because there were clouds that were illuminated by the moonlight, and at one point there was a break in the clouds, letting a bright shaft of milky-clear light touch the hill on the other side of our valley. On the way home I hade to stop like 4 times because my left shoe kept coming untied. It was annoying.

When I got home, I was going to go finish IT, but my sister came inside to talk about wedding plans and her fiancé. So I naturally joined the conversation. It was kind of a bore. She was going on and on about invitations, how her kitchen was going to be orange, getting tapestries for her apartment, and wedding photography. She seems to like color and modern stuff while her fiancé likes more classic stuff. She wanted these weird wedding invitations, and he didn't like them, he wanted traditional black and white. And she said, 'Why live in black and white when you can live in color?' Then I told her that black and white was more classy and she said that she didn't care. She has this habit of not ever listening to what I say, but then again, I make a habit of never listening to what she says, so I guess we're even.

She did surprisingly say something that was tolerably interesting, so I suppose I'll share it with you.* It was about why people wear white dresses. I kind of assumed that it had always been that way, but I guess I was wrong. Can you guess who started the universal tend? She was a queen. Of England. Yeah, that's right, Queen Victoria wore a white wedding dress, and since she was so awesome and everyone wanted to be like her, it became the norm. Who would have though it?

Then I had an hour and a half conversation with my friend, (don't get me started, my record is 5 and 1/2) and then I went to bed.

This morning I got up to get dressed for mass, but we didn't go. I found some amazing pants, though. I think my mom bought them for me but I dismissed them as 'old fashioned' in my too cool for school days. Anyway. They look Caribbean. And by Caribbean, I mean they look like a Cuban drug cartel lord's pants. I think I kind of like them. They would work better in someone who's legs were less like matches and more like fat German sausage links, though. The word that best describes them is: billowy. There are many pluses to them. For instance, if I ever was to get shipwrecked in the Caribbean, I could use them as a sail for my raft. I think they would work quite well for that purpose....There would be the slight problem of me not having pants anymore, but desperate times call for desperate measures. At least that's what they say. And a note of caution: if you ever see me wearing the afore mentioned trousers, be careful not to laugh, because if you do, you might find el cartel after you. *evil laugh*

Ok, time to go to mass.

The things we stupid humans do.

And my humans, I mean guys, and by guys I mean me. Sometimes I do things, or I see other people doing things, that are so solidly stupid, it just cracks me up. I think I've already talked about the whole bathroom incident at Magic Mountain, but that's honestly the tip of the iceberg. Most of the time, my stupid moments come from the general area of my mouth, though. From simple, but awful, slip ups of my tongue, to moments where I am left in a shell shocked state, wondering, 'Did I really just say that? Was that really me? The answer is, without fail, yes. I know I just need to think more before I say things, but I just don't know how to. I. NEED. HELP. GUYS. Most of the times I go out somewhere with people, I come home and I pretty much say, Whoops, that wasn't cool Thomas, or that, or that, and so on and so forth.

Don't worry guys, I'm almost done with it, but I just have to talk a little bit more about Emma and Jane Austen in general. I'm going to say, and you can quote me on this, that I love Emma. (both the book and the character....I don't get the people who hate on her...she's not perfect, but she really is a good person) Now I know its not some adrenaline-filled adventure novel that you cant put down until you finish it, but in reality, I think that's the genius of Austen. The insight she gives to the human soul, its triumphs and its defeats, its bliss and its pain, its foolishness and its intelligence, makes her characters so very human, and therefore relatable, that it makes her books amazing and worthwhile to read. I would go so far as saying that her insight and humanization for her characters make it so she doesn't need the most exciting or intricate plot to make write a good or even great novel. Her novels are like a person who doesn't need makeup to further and compliment her beauty because she is already perfectly wonderful. And her writing is so wonderful; about as close as something to get to perfection without being perfect....Here's a quote to prove it. "...'Mr. Frank Churchill and Miss Woodhouse flirted together excessively.' They were laying themselves open to that very phrase--and to having it sent off in a letter to Maple Grove by one lady, to Ireland by another. Not that Emma was gay and thoughtless from any real felicity; it was rather because she felt less than she happy than she had expected. She laughed because she was disappointed;..." Need I say more? That situation happens so many times to everyone, to greater or to lesser degrees. When I'm disappointed that someone who I really wanted to come to a party or a dance doesn't show up, I go crazy because if I'm not constantly talking, dancing, singing, going crazy and generally making a fool out of myself, I get depressed. I need distractions from unpleasant emotions. And we see the very same thing, only on a larger scale, in our society. People need distractions because they are not at peace with themselves; they need constant blaring music, blinking lights, crazy parties, and abuse of drugs and alcohol. They cannot bear silence. Why? Because one's conscience speaks to you in silence; one gets to know oneself in silence; and if one isn't in God's peace, that isn't a pleasant experience. That's what makes her truly great. The countless people and situations that you can relate to. Because they are human.

BYEBYE NOW.

Keeping my word: commas.

I was scrolling down an awesome, but slightly bizarre conversation I had with someone a few months ago on another blog. (I still cant believe its been as long as its been.) Anyway. It was right when I was starting my blog, and we were talking about commas. More precisely about how much we love commas. We even talked about having a comma themed party--how's that for nerdy? I also said that I was going to dedicate a post to commas because I think they're underappreciated. I had kind of forgotten about it. So here I am, months later, dedicating a post to commas.

Dear commas,

I honestly don't know what I would do without you. My writing is littered with what some people would call 'unnecessary' or even 'problematic' members of your family. But I want you all to know that I think all of you are awesome and have worth, no matter what your situation or place in sentence. And now I will make a moment of silence your brothers and sisters who have been mercilessly axed by Grammar and Writing teachers around the world. *brief moment of silence*
I hope that our relationship continues to blossom till the end of time. To commas everywhere!

Oh, and I got steroids to squirt up my nose today,* in addition to the saline and silver solutions.

Ok, now that I've sufficiently weirded y'all out, I think I'll go take some dinner.

*After we get it registered with the ITU and have gotten a medical exception note.

Space, time, and Einstein.

Yesterday in physics class we had a really cool conversation about work and energy. Then, after I got home from youth group, I stayed up really late talking with my dad about Einstein's Theory of Relativity. It was amazing. And really hard to wrap one's mind around. The thought that time and space are intrinsically connected was crazy to me at first, but then when my dad explained that they both have to do with movement, it made more sense.

A week ago I said during class that I thought that pretty much all the laws of physics were just explanations for effects and not causal. What I mean by that is that scientists see effects due to gravity, light, energy, etc. and then they make a law that states "the effects of so and so should act in this way because that's what has happened in the past." So pretty much a law is what scientists use when they cant really understand a phenomenon's final cause. No one knows what gravity is, exactly, so we have a Law of Gravity that 'explains' it. But not really.

Einstein's theory works out mathematically, and explains many things that before were paradoxes. They've done some really cool experiments and that support his theory. So it is a plausible explanation for the cause of the effects of gravity, but its just one and there are probably others. Honestly though guys. This stuff is so cool that I was thinking about becoming a insane scientist last night, but then I remembered that it would mean that my brain would have to be almost constantly working at a high speed and its not used to working much at all, so I think all that work would probably turn out to be too much of a shock for it and I subsequently gave up the idea.

The reason I am bringing this up, though, is that I had a thought during class. About abortion. So many of the pro abortion advocates say that science says that unborn babies are just a pile of tissue. Which isn't true. If science even has the ability to say anything definitively, something that I think questionable, it points to the opposite. I'm not going to get into that because its pretty self-evident. What is crazy to me is that people put so much faith in science. Don't get me wrong, I think science is awesome and helps us understand many important things, but it seems to me that the "king of science", physics, is made up of laws that don't really explain anything besides, "Well guys, this should happen." I guess what I'm trying to say is that it seems so crazy and wrong to me that people have utter faith in these abstract, questionable laws and at the same time think its wrong and delusional to even suggest that a baby is a baby, whether its in its nice, cozy bedroom in mommy's tummy or laying in a cradle. Call me a whacko, but it seems to me that believing a baby is a baby, regardless of its surroundings, makes more sense then putting utter faith in laws regarding phenomena that the law makers don't even truly understand.

...Whoops, sorry that came out all wibbly-wobbly...hopefully its at least somewhat comprehensible.....it sounded so much better up here.

Okay, I've got a doctor's appointment to go to school to get done, so I have better get going.

Have fun storming the castle!

Boooooooyeah!

You know, you live and you lean. Today I learned that attempting to study Federalist Papers 9, 15, 16, and The Articles of Confederation in approximately 34 min. is probably best left not recommended. Or in other words, I would not recommend attempting it. And taking a test after doing so? No bueno.

The above situations actually touch upon two of my many faults and because I was actually thinking about doing a post on some of my shortcomings already, I think I'll go a little more in depth. The reason, of course, for my wanting to do a shortcomings post is that I don't want to have people to have a false impression of me. Those of you who a) don't know me at all and are either 1. a person who leads a boring enough life to read this without knowing me,  or 2. a creepy stocker, (hopefully that picture yesterday scared at least a few of you off)  or b) a person who doesn't know me very well and wants to have better informed opinion of me probably think I'm some sort of perfect person who was sent down to be a light to this dark world. Nope. Just because I'm always preaching (nicely, I hope) about stuff, being polite, and generally putting on a good face here, does not mean that I'm like this in real life. You see, I'm an idiot. The blog version of me is the ideal (except that I wouldn't be quite as preachy, probably) Thomas. Why is he ideal? Well, I think its because here I generally think about what I say and do before I type it, whereas in everyday life, I don't usually find the time to think before I act. Its weird.

Anyway. Moving on to the two shortcomings. Number one is procrastination. For hopefully obvious reasons. I'm both so very good at it and so very bad at it, it might in the end prove to be my downfall. The problem is that I still get along reasonably well. Gah! I don't fully understand procrastination. One knows things aren't going to get any easier, one knows that its just going to complicate things, and yet one does it anyway. I know it has to do with laziness, but still: you'd think it would be easier to curb.

Number two is that I overanalyze things. You might now be wondering what I mean by 'things.' Well, to be honest, I mean practically everything. From people to relationships between people  to problems on tests. My head and my heart are constantly resisting each other, like flipped magnets, and the result is that I blunderize a lot of things. If I just went with my 'gut' feeling more, I think things would go a lot better, and by things I mean test, and by tests I mean pretty much everything because life really is just one ginormous test, right?

Ahhh! I just had blueberries and cream for dessert....pure delight!

Oh, and speaking of tests, yesterday I took a personality test that my friends had mentioned in the past and that I had been totally in the dark about. Its called the Myers-Briggs personality test. Anyway. Some of my friends are somewhat nerdy and they would talk about how they were a ENTJ or and ENFP or something like that, and I was totally lost. So I went on this website and took it. The crazy thing about is that is only has 4 questions and they determine what your traits are. Its nuts and pretty accurate.  Mine didn't work perfectly because I honestly didn't know how answer some of them. They are either or questions and I need a 'both' option. Mine was INFP, which supposedly means that I am, "Idealistic, loyal to their values and to people who are important to them. Want an external life that is congruent with their values. Curious, quick to see possibilities, can be catalysts for implementing ideas. Seek to understand people and to help them fulfill their potential. Adaptable, flexible, and accepting unless a value is threatened.".....This particular personality is more commonly a girl's and less commonly a guy's....that figures. What was cool, though, is that among a few other awesome career fits, physical therapy was one the 'best fits for an INFP' and that is currently tied at the top of my career pyramid.

Adios Peoples!

-Thomas, who totally whipped his tests today.....he hopes.

Cramming, jamming, and breaking down.

So I'm frantically studying for a civics test and I have to turn in a quarterly test for physics by tomorrow. Its utter chaos. My brain, that is. So I thought I'd stop in for a few to say hi and let things ferment.

I firstly have a confession to make. The REAL reason I didn't describe the W4L trip was because I didn't feel like doing an in-depth post. Or in other words, I was lazy. Surprise, surprise! My wonderful friend did everyone a favor by giving her account of it, though, and she did a fantastic job, too. Its a pretty accurate depiction, especially the summation of it all at the end. Ok, I'm going to stop blabbering and give you the link. You can find it if you click this totally awesome orange font.

And because a picture a worth a thousand words, I'll share one with you:

...A few of the gang.

Well, I should get going. Peace out.

What if?

So apparently your prayers worked because here I am typing up yet another post. I'm not splatted on I-5. I  guess that could be either good news or bad, depending on whether you are friend or foe. I was going to talk about the trip itself, but both because you most likely weren't there and I because am not the best of writers, it would most probably bore you all to death. All you need to really know about it is that it was good, fun, and has left me exhausted. I am rather going to talk about feelings I experienced while I was there.

San Francisco is a beautiful city. The buildings, the diverse topographical features, and the amazing views that result from them make it a unique and wonderful place. But it's still a real world city. It's not some magical perfect fantasy. It still is filled with the ugliness that goes hand in hand with the word 'city.' One sees and hears things that are best left undescribed. But the worst part is that one sees humanity in its lowest forms; one sees men and woman reduced to an animalistic state.

The emotions I feel when I see such people are so complex, I don't know whether my writing will be able to do them justice. But I will do my best. There is definitely a feeling of repulsiveness. There is, at the same time though, a feeling of attraction. One feels so very compassionate for them. One wants to share in their sufferings, to lighten their loads. There are also feelings of relief and thankfulness, yet they are contradicted with a healthy fear. One is so thankful that God has given one so much in life: so great a family, such great friends, and strong faith; one is relieved because one knows that fate could have just as easily given one the role of a street person, as she could have given one the role of a happy, carefree, and blessed teenager "What if I had been dealt the Queen of Spades? What if I was destined to be a prime example of humanity in it's lowest form?"; and one is struck with fear precisely because one is so blessed: what is God's plan? What are his expectations? For he said, "Those to whom much is given, much will be expected..." One's heart burns with the question, "Will I meet those expectations?"  One hopes and prays that one will not turn out to be the servant who buries one's Talent and does not let it produce because of an unhealthy fear. One's heart is such a confused soup of emotion, one just want's to go to a very, very quiet place and think for a very, very long time.

I guess all that is left is for me to trust and to do.

Oh, and this morning I invented to new kind of art. At a café. Its called "Mocha frappe freeze creative creations." And I think I'm going to patent it. I literally had the most fun I've in ages doing it.....Ahhh fun for the feeble minded. :)

I think I'm off to DO!

Really quick.

Today I'm going up to SF for the Walk 4life West Coast with a bunch of friends, so I'll be gone all weekend. Plus, I have two quarterly tests on Tuesday that I haven't studied for, which means that I might not be dropping in for quite some time.....just wanted to tell you guys so you didn't think I died or something.....Although that's always a possibility with my mom driving. =P Please pray that we all don't end up splatted on the 5, if you get the chance. Also, on a more serious note, please pray that the walk goes well and that we are able to peacefully give witness to God's love and Gospel.

Be back sometime. (hopefully)

Bagels>Everything

Yet another brilliantly blue sky in SoCal. We need rain though. I heard the other day that this past year was the driest its been in the past 100 years or so for our area. Everything is so brown and gross that its sort of depressing. :(

Ok. Moving on to a lighter subject. I think we all compare people in our lives to characters in the movies we see and in the books we read. At least I do. Like, "Oh my gosh! So-and-so is just like Rapunzel." or, "Hah! He's Gaston reincarnated." and I could go on and on. As y'all pretty much have to know by now, I'm currently reading Emma. Oh no, you sigh, is he really going to keep on talking about this book? Hasn't he done that enough already? Is it ever going to end? To which I reply, Yes, no, and regretfully yes. So, while I read it, I match people in the book to people I know. I of course have an Emma, a Mr. Woodhouse, a Mr. and Mrs. Weston, a Herriot, a Jane Fairfax, and a Miss Bates. I don't have anyone who fits perfectly to either Frank Churchill or Mr. Knightley though. I am bringing this up, though, because today Mrs. E. made her first appearance in the story and I have someone who fits her so perfectly, its quite amazing. I mean, the person I know isn't nearly as bad Mrs. E....she's like Mrs. E. jr. or Mrs. E. to a lesser degree, but the similarities are still striking.

Oopsies, gotta run.

Last night.

I think you all know that my youth group meets every Tuesday night. And if you didn't, you do now. Anyway, last night was interesting because we had a guest speaker who taught us a little bit about talking with prochoice people and spreading the prolife message. Before I go on, I just want to say that the person who spoke to us is one of the most amazing people I know, and she is an amazing role model for all of us younger-young people, so it was a great experience having her come last night. Its kind of not fair, actually, because the girls had two awesome role models last night. (one of our regular leaders, Mary, is right up there with Sarah, the college student who talked to us) The guy leaders are good, I guess, but quite frankly lame in comparison to Mary. Which is a shame because I think the guys of our youth group are in much more need of a truly great person who we can try to imitate and learn from than the girls are. That's not to say that we cant learn a lot from Mary--I certainly have--but its different when you have someone who is of the same gender because its easier to relate to one another.

After Sarah left, we had these sort of mock trial things where two people took the prochoice position and two people took the prolife position. It was really weird because we were trying to have a realistic conversation, but we were doing it with a bunch of people watching us, being our audience. That doesn't exactly breed natural conversation. It was super hard. Especially because the first time I went up, my friend for some reason thought it would be cute to act weird, in a way that I don't want to get into. I was not overly happy about that. The other part of my first time up was good though. I was told to be overbearing and obnoxious. That part was fun. If we do it in the future, though, I think it would be better if we split into groups of four and do it without an audience. It would not only make things more natural, but also be more realistic.

I had one other problem with the night. The leaders kept on talking about amazing it was that we are going to the Walk4 Life in SF. And how amazing the experience is and everything. Which is all very true and they were just really excited about it, but some people who were there last night are not coming for one reason or another. And I suspect that under normal circumstances everyone would have wanted to come. And I know that some people who wanted to come couldn't make it, so it must have not been very fun for those unfortunate few to be constantly reminded of what they are missing out on.

All in all it was a good night, though. But as Austen says, "Perfect happiness, even in memory, is not common; and there were two points on which she was not quite easy." (sorry, I'm reading her right now and there was a situation that fits exactly with how I feel about last night)

Well,  I had better get a move on.

Pepperoni>Bacon.

Oh, I just had the most glorious snack. The only un-glorious thing about it is that I think I had a wee bit too much of it. And you have no idea how much I love my keyboard. And I want new slippers. Well, this post has started off somewhat randomly, so I think I'll just go with the flow and continue the trend. Can something really have no point? I don't think so, but I guess that would depend on your definition of  'point.'

Honestly guys, I wish school was more difficult. And don't laugh. Seriously guys, pretty much the only good thing about school is that it kills time. I don't do hardly any actual work, though, so it doesn't even do that. Its just so boring. Its not that I'm like super smart, either. Its just that the curriculum that I use decided to make that tests a joke and work pretty slim senior year. I bet they were thinking they were bring nice when they designed it that way, but I think its more of a tease. Senior year is already bad because you've already taken the SAT and gotten accepted to college, but if you have to do it at all, you might as well GET something out of it, right? This is torture. I am not going to college and making progress and getting on with my life because I "need" to stay home and to almost absolutely nothing. It just doesn't make sense. That being said, I know that if I was doing a really hard senior year curriculum, I would complain about not getting a break and about how we are already accepted so why all the work etc. Man is never fully satisfied with what he has until he dies, at which point he is either wholly satisfied or wholly dissatisfied. I did just get a really fun new calculus book that I'm super excited about. It makes fun of math nerds, which means that it makes fun of itself and I find that extremely amusing.

Ahh yes, I had classes today....I don't think its a good sign when your peers, upon getting out, tell you that all they were thinking about was, "Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps to 4 o'clock." In fact, we didn't even make it till four because our observed that we were "looking pretty tired." Yeah, not a good day.

And now for: Top ten totally terrible  (/- the 'e' and + the 'y' amazing) dieting tips from Tom:

1. Eat candy. Lots of it.
2. Avoid eggplant. All of it.
3. Generally keep away from all things green....the devil is depicted as a green snake for a reason. Also, green is the color of infection, so I really don't get why people are usually of the opinion that greens are healthy. (the exceptions to this tip are, of course, anything that falls under category of tip #1)
4. Ice cream is what makes the world go round. Dig into it whenever and wherever you have the chance, no matter what the cost.
5. At least a daily dose of anything with the labels, Frito Lay or KRAFT on the backside of them.
6. Fast food at least once a week.
7. Eat as much white, fake bread as you can get your hands on.
8. Turnovers, Danishes, and strudels are highly  recommended.
9. When it can be deep fried. Fry it.
10. Eat what you want. The time you send on this planet is infinitely short in comparison to the time you will spend elsewhere and life already majorly stinks as it is, so it doesn't make any sense to make it worse by forcing down gruel and forgoing delicacies such as McDonald's just because you want to live an extra 5 years or something.

.........So pretty much do everything I cant do.

So long, my virtual minions.

Exhausted.

Hmmm. I have a lot of catching up to do and I don't know exactly where to start. I guess I'll get this thing kicked off by clearing up the getting fired rant that I went on a few days back. As you probably guessed, I didn't get fired. I didn't even really get laid off. There was a problem with me being a minor, so I have to wait till Sept. until I can coach. No big deal. In fact, I think my head coach was more mad about it than I was.

Anyway. On Sat. night we had a seminar at our house. It was good, the people were good, and (most importantly) the pizza was good. I was exhausted and not feeling too well, though, so that part wasn't so fun.

Then came yesterday. The day of fate. It started off with church, which was followed immediately by a basketball game. I got to see my friends get butchered again. It was painful. Especially because one of them hurt his ankle. It wasn't cool. They are like way smaller than all the other teams, in numbers and in actual size. There was this guy on the other team who looked like a bear. His arms were literally the size of my thighs. It was gross and unfair. But they put up a good fight. We all went out to lunch afterward and that at least was fun.

The basketball game was followed by a football game....if you care about football at all, you'll know which game I mean, and if you don't then you wont, which is fine. *insert last night's post* (don't want to have to put you through that again)

Thankfully there was something going on last night capable of distracting the anguish I was feeling after the loss. A dance. It was really crazy and fun. Plus, I learned (and made up) some waltz moves, so that was cool. I love waltzing; its so--I don't know--beautiful or something. We didn't get home till pretty late and I was definitely ready for bed.

Oh look, we're already at this morning. One word: exhausted. I started out by reading my daily portion of Emma. And I could barely get through it because I am that tired. I would read for a few minutes and then just collapse and sprawl motionless on the couch in hibernation until I felt I had the strength to support my head, my eyelids, and the book itself. Which is pretty much how this post is being written as well.

But something really did strike me when I was reading. More particularly, a word. The word is, 'plain.' It was the way of saying 'unattractive' or 'ugly' back then. What struck me was how much nicer that is than our present adjectives that are used to describe someone who is not seen as attractive. our present day ones are so degrading and belittling, its just sad. I think we should bring 'plain' back.

Well, I was going to keep going on about beauty and stuffs, but I have to go to church, so y'all are spared. Be thankful. ;)

Adios.

-Thomas

Its all over.

Total despair and utter disappointment. That is what the essence of my existence is right now. Well, that and curling up on the couch thinking of all the situations that could have been handled better. YOU GUYS LITERALLY HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH EMOTIONAL TRAUMA I AM EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW. They are situations that I could have righted; that I could have fixed, if only I had worn my jersey the whole game. (yes, I'm superstitious) My team lost. Now I cant go anywhere online without being reminded of my boys' defeat. Besides here. And I'm so tired that I'm feeling sick, so I think I'll sign off. The only reason I'm doing this is because I was all settled in bed when I remembered that I still had to do meds and I cant lay down for a little while after taking them, or else they'll eat away the lining of my digestive system.

...And on that pleasant note, good night. (or good morning, I guess)

Left with a feeling of betrayal.

Today my family is hosting the pizza/seminar thing that was supposed to happen last week. Cool. What's not cool, though, is that my parents ditched and are off in LA at some posh art museum. So here I am, trying to hold the fort together and trying to get the house ready, simultaneously, at the same time. The funny thing is that I went to that museum awhile ago with my friends, and they got kicked out....for sitting on benches or something. I wasn't with them at the time, so I missed it. Seriously though. That museum is a joke. You can't even touch the railings of the stairs, let alone sit on the benches. To tell you the truth, my parents signed up for the tour before the seminar was set for today, and they apologized very nicely, so they didn't exactly ditch, but it still stinks. :(

And while I'm complaining, I might as well complain about my wart. I thankfully haven't been a warty person, but I have a tiny one on my left index toe and it bothers me.

Well, duty calls....I must perform my tasks.

I will be talking to y'all later if I survive till the evening. Please pray that we don't burn down the house.

Goodbye.

Large quantities of nothingness.

My life right now is complete nothingness. I'm on these really nasty drugs right now, and they make everything bleh-ish. They have left me with no willpower, and absolutely no inclination to do much of anything. All I want to do now is sleep. And then sleep some more. But I cant because of the blasted weather. Given the brightness of the sun, the dryness in the air, and the highness of the temperature, things aren't quite comfortable right now. In fact, if I didn't KNOW that I am, at the present, looking out upon our yard, I wouldn't be surprised if our house had been somehow transported to the Sahara. The bottom line is that its bloody hot right now for Jan.

You know, things were so good two days ago, I find it hard to believe that I was actually happy such a short time ago. I was finding rhythm in my life once again, and everything seemed to be going along quite well. I was working my first real job; the future was bright and I had come to the end of  what had been a very long tunnel.  But how quickly things change. How life cheats and teases us. Yesterday I was fired. And my monotonous droning existence has recommenced. That is, if you can even call it an existence now. Life is like a pendulum: from bottom it looks like random movement and change, from the top, though,  it has an intricately coordinated with the very axles of the earth. In life we only see the view from the bottom and in death we see it from the top.

Oh gosh guys, you have no idea how much fun I get out of writing melodramatically. Its so much fun. Things aren't really that bad. I'm just not feeling well today (Probably because I was FIRED!) and, like I said, its so much fun. :)

Oops, gots to go make lunch for peoples. (I'll hopefully get on later to explain to y'all about the getting fired part)

On Costco pizza, my nose, and other generally unimportant subjects.

...Well, apparently my sister is going to somehow get blisters on her tummy...at least that's what she's screaming right now with the vocal effect of a thousand howling hyenas. Its not pleasant. Ahh! She has been silenced and is now being taken to a far off realm to correct her unfortunate condition. My mom just worked her magic. Again. Aren't moms just about the best invention ever? I don't know what I would do without mine. I'd probably be more insane than I already am. If you can imagine that. Hmmm on second thought, lets forget the whole imagining thing because I doubt its healthy for your standard, normal brains.

And now for a discourse on Costco pizza. For me, Costco pizza is a ongoing and never-ending debate. I just cant figure out whether I actually like it or not. Some people love it; others, not so much. I have had it described to me as a cheesy heaven and have also had people who say that its only use is as a spare tire for one's car if one gets a flat. I think I'm somewhere in middle. I mean, it definitely tastes good, but I will grant that its texture is oftentimes awful. I eat it, and its both scrumcious and disgusting at the same time. Its kind of like food from MacDonald's. So, I guess you could say that the Costco pizza is the equivalent to the fast food burger.

Up next is my nose. Its so incredibly inconveniently large. Aside from the obvious woeful effects it has on my face, its always getting in the way. That's what really bothers me. Things are always bumping it or getting bumped by it, that honestly it is a wonder to me that it still bears roughly the same shape that a nose should. There have been countless instances when my hand has been caught on it whilst trying to make the Sign of The Cross. My theory is that its greedy for attention. I mean look at it. There it is, huge and obnoxious, right smack in the middle of my head. Its probably jealous because my forehead, belly button, and shoulders get so much attention during church. Thank goodness I don't go to the Trinatine Right very often because my nose would probably be screaming bloody murder by that point, just as all my aching arm muscles do from making the Sign of the Cross 42 times over the course of the mass. Oh, and the other day at dinner my despicable nose grabbed ahold of my fork as it was in its downward decent toward my mouth laden with mashed potatoes. I am almost sure it was because he wanted them. I wish I could fire him and hire a new one, but he seems slightly attached to his job and I don't want to make him quit because it might hurt his feelings. That's the problem with bad noses; they're like bad relatives: they're quite permanent and you just cant seems to get rid of them. Here's to hoping my greedy nose will start behaving himself because I just dedicated a whole paragraph to him. (I still cant believe I actually did, but whatever. The truth will come out sometime, so what's the use in trying to hide it? I talk to my nose.)

Oh, and something happened earlier that totally made me flip. I have no idea why, but it did. Don't laugh. Anyway. I was reading Emma today and I came across the Jane Austen quote in my precious gum packs that I told you about awhile ago. "One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other." I don't know why, but I thought it was so cool.

And I've been meaning to post a writing prompt that I did awhile ago for a writing contest, so here it is:

"So it turned out that reading my sister's diary was a mistake. Here I am, now sprawling, now curled-up upon her bed. My thoughts are like a shipwreck scene from one of those old cinemas Dad used to make us watch; my only constants are muffled sobs, streaming tears, and an awful turning in my stomach.

When Dad died and she had had quit school to cover the bill for Mums, she had begun to guard her diary with an intense jealousy. So how could I have overcome my curiosity when I discovered it   unlocked on her quilt? I thought all I was going to find was the usual rot one finds in a single girl's diary, 'I adore so-and-so, but he never so much as looks at me' etc. But I was so wrong. Oh, how dreadfully wrong! She told us she had gotten a job, the job we had all been praying for, in downtown Dublin, but that was all a lie.

H--how could she have stooped to a level that low? And just for the money. I would've rather starved then for her to----  Oh, what am I to do? What can I do? To reveal would mean utter ruin; to conceal: a deep and endless guilt...."

Basically you had to start with the first sentence and then continue on for another 138 words. It had a 150 word limit. This is what I wrote, but it was over the limit by a lot, so I had to trim it down and try to patch it back together. I didn't win, but I wasn't really expecting to because this was the first thing I've done like this. Anyway. I like this version a ton better, so I thought I would post it. (and stop sniggering)

See ya,

-Thomas

Phew!

Guess what guys? The doctor actually found something materially wrong with me! I no longer have some mysterious phantom problem that no one can put a name to. The results of the CAT scan came in and he was right. I have a chronic sinus infection. I've already started treatment for it (a month-long course of hardcore antibiotics) and I should be feeling better within a couple of weeks. They are running a bunch of blood tests to make sure nothing additional is wrong and I'll know for sure in the next few days. But guys. THIS IS SO EXCITING! I'm not going to be sick anymore! I've almost forgotten what is feels like to feel good. Its going to be like getting reborn. I"M GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO STUFF AGAIN! TO GET ON WITH MY LIFE! I'M SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY! IT FEELS LIKE A PARTY IS IN ORDER OR SOMETHING. ITS JUST AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ok probably enough caps for the present. I just wish everyone could be as happy as I am right now. Its such an amazing, peaceful feeling.

I started reading Emma today for school today, so I cant complain. Its actually the first time for me. I mean, I know the story and everything because I've seen TV and movie versions, but its the first actual read through I've done. All I have left for my literature class is: finish Emma, write a paper, read the C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy, write another paper, (plus random poetry thrown in every once in awhile) and then I'm done. It seems so close. And all the reading is super fun, so everything is going to fly by.

I also had to read some of The Federalists Papers today, and they are a pretty tough read. The crazy thing is that they were published in newspapers. Or in other words, your average decently educated townsman could read them with understanding. This is just a guess, but I would say that between 85 and 95% of the grown American population couldn't read them with even any pretense of understanding. They say we are so advanced and yet 90% of the high school grads in inner NYC are illiterate. I really don't think that that fact and "advanced" go hand in hand. PEOPLE ACTUALLY USED TO LEARN THINGS, guys.

I also just got invited to go to a swim camp at the OTC (Olympic training center)  in Colorado Springs, which is  pretty exciting. I've gone to the Chula Vista OTC before, but I missed the last camp at Colorado springs because I was working at a summer camp at the time. Going to an OTC is an awesome experience and if you're lucky lots of big time athletes are there at the same time. So it should be fun. Last time I went, I was a newbie and it was right after Easter. I had bought like 4 bags of NERD jelly beans. So I naturally brought them to the camp....while everyone else was taking their nutrition bars and protein shots, there I was, watching TV and downing jelly beans. It was glorious. Until I got sick.  They became part of my legacy...people still crack jokes about my infamous jelly beans.

The other half of my "legacy" was that I was always forgetting things. It got bad. And hilarious. One day went out to ride a race course on our bikes. It was going to be awesome. Everyone had made sure they had brought everything and we were getting on our bikes when....I discovered I had forgotten my cleats. So I had to chill with the support team eating Kettle chips...it was rough.  The next day we had to get up at 5:30 and head to the pool for a workout. After making sure I brought my swimsuit and a dozy ride over, I found myself in the locker room getting dressed. I was joking with the elder statesmen of the team about the previous day's cleats incident, when, as I reached into my bag and took my suit out, I said "Well, at least I didn't forget my swimsuit" Then to my horror, I saw that the piece of black spandex that was hanging from my until-then-triumphant hand, was a running shirt and most definitely not my suit. In my defense, it was dark when I got up and because I didn't want to wake my roommate up, I didn't turn the light on. It wouldn't have gone more perfectly wrong if it had been scripted. Let's just say it was a moment I will never forget.

Night night, sleep tight, and don't let the bedbugs bite.

-Thomas

C'mon guys.

Yeah, so yesterday was about as non-stop as it gets. I was doing something from 7 in the morning till 9:30 last night. Yesterday was also the first day of classes this semester for me. They went about as well as could possibly be expected, seeing as I have to do all of my homework (40 pages of a complicated and archaically written history text) in 20 min. It was crazy. And it was that way because I underwent a series of unfortunate events yesterday morning. We went at seven to get my blood drawn, but they needed to verify what the doctor wanted and his office didn't open till 9. So that didn't work. Then it was off to Thousand Oaks for a CAT scan. It took us an hour and a half to get there because there was a huge car crash on the 126. Once we were done with that, it was back to Santa Paula to get the blood drawn. There was an hour of waiting time before I got in. So by the time I got home it was a half hour before my class started and I still needed lunch.

After classes I had to take probably the most retarded online course in existence because I'm helping out at swim team now. After finishing the course, I came late to swim to tell the head coach that it had all worked and that I had completed the course. Then suddenly I was telling (or trying to) 15 little kids what to do. I hadn't expected I was going to start yesterday, so I was kind of winging it, but it all went fine I think.

Then it was youth group. For the first time in about a month (we took a break for Christmas) and I realized that it has spanned across 3 years already. It seems crazy. It was also one of the times I was ashamed to be a guy. There are a couple people who are just so....I don't know even know how to explain it. These are some of my best friends and I love 'em, but they just don't seem to get that there are times when craziness is good, and there are times when seriousness is good. It bothers me that the leaders put effort into something for our good: they don't have to do what they are doing and people just shrug it off, don't listen, and even wreck it for others. And I totally get an occasional giggle or an off day where you are just totally hyper and there is nothing you can do about it. Pretty much everyone gets those every once in awhile. But this is pretty much constant attention hoarding thoughtlessness and rambunctiousness. Its getting old and I wonder how much more the leaders will put up with. Seriously guys, can we try to put on a pretense of a smidgen of common courtesy, if only for an hour and a half?  Can we make being a guy something to be proud of, rather than an embarrassment? Lets do this peoples!

In other news, I secured a place for our high school group to stay in SF during the Walk 4life weekend. We are still planning things, but its looking like its going to be an amazing trip, if I can say so myself.

Weeeeelllll, I guess I'll seeing you later.

Bye.

Swamped.

I'm really busy...today has been non stop and it will remain so till tonight, I think, so I think I'll just say hi. HI!

Say what?

And say what about that say what because I have no idea why that was the title. Its just what my fingers did. Whatever. Today started with mass, of course, and then my mom and I had to rush off to guess where? A Doctor's office. More specifically, an ID specialist. He was really good. We have it pretty much narrowed down to 3 options: (in order of likelihood) a chronic sinus infection, Lupus or a Lupus-like disease, or some kind of cancer in my chest. Needless to say, I hope its the first one. Lupus is an autoimmune disease, which means that your body pretty much goes into self-destruction mode, and cancer is, well, sort of cancer-ish. The good news is that Lupus is really rare and so its most probably a chronic sinus infection and the cure for that is easy. Go on antibiotics FOREVER! (well, actually a month, but forever had a much more dramatic feel to it) So yeah, hopefully and probably its the first possibility.

After we finished with the ID guy, we scrambled over to the radiologists to get some x-rays done of my chest and schedule a CAT-scan. When we had finished there, my mom took me to a running store to try out some kicks and then we made our way home.

We were home for about an hour  and then it was off to the lab to get some more blood drawn. We got there and the place had just closed, so we have to be there by 7 in the morning tomorrow to get it done because I have an appointment with the radiologists at 9:30 and its quite a ways away. So that's not great, but its really exiting. We're getting a move on; we are deducting away and we will find the villain. We getting closer; I can smell triumph in the air. Lets just hope its not a Moriarty-esque disease because I'm no Sherlock, so it would probably bring me down with it.

And I have some homework to get done, so I think I'll take my leave now.

BE HAPPY.

"Not cool."

So if certain things hadn't happened, I would be discussing literature and having a pizza right now with my friends. But things did happen. More specifically, both my mom and dad got sick. Yeah, that was a bummer. For both reasons.

Things were looking better, though. I was at a friends house playing cards. I don't know why, but everything seemed so nice and cozy. Maybe it was the hot chocolate. In any case, it was a nice way to spend my last evening of freedom before school. Yes, my fellow conspirators, school, the arch-enemy of all students, is almost upon me. It hangs above me like a giant water balloon that is suspended over me and is about to be harpooned. I see it coming but I am a split second too late. I should have ran off to Nebraska and carried out my awesome plan. Alas! School is inevitable now. Not cool. Back to nooice and cozy. We were going to have dinner. But then the phone rang and it sent a chill through my bosom. That sound, that dreaded, awful noise, had come. It mocked my fun with its nonchalant and simple ringing. I  was to come home at once. I couldn't even finish the game I was playing. I was not happy. There wasn't even a good reason for it. All it made for was an uncomfortable situation. I really not happy when I started this post, but now everything is fine again. Its not good because I now my friends are hanging out and I cant be with them. Its fine though. Because its so much fun to write; to get worked up about the writing, but in a good way; to visualize and use crazy words; to be able to do whatever you want. Its freedom. And its cool. And now I doing ok.

This is going to be short, so with all that extra free time you can get a movie order recommendation. Yesterday I watched a movie with my mom...it was so emotional and touching. It was beautiful. And it was extremely sad. The title is, The Boy in The Striped Pajamas and its on Netflix. So watch it. If you do, don't get caught up with technicalities because its not exactly accurate war-wise. Just take in the story, the emotions, and the lessons because the are all well worth it. And if you don't at least tear up, you've got something majorly wrong with your heart--compassion is what sets us apart from the rest of creation.*

Bye foe now,

-Thomas

*I know that's not entirely true, but compassion is a solely human phenomenon and it sounded good....like I was saying, technicalities are overrated.

Dentists and tea.

This morning I went to get my teeth cleaned. At the dentist's. No cavities. Nil. Zip. Zero. Which actually isn't a surprise because I've never gotten one in my entire life. Which actually is a surprise because my brushing habits are less than optimal. Anyway. Dentist visits are awkward. Ok, is it just me, or are dental assistants usually quite attractive. So. Back to awkward. There you are, lying in a suped-up lounge chair with a gorgeous woman waiting on you. Life is good, right? Hah! Not so fast you fool. Because all there is is a silence. No matter how hard you try, you cant strike up a conversation. Why? Because your mouth is in a constant gape and said attractive woman is playing around on the inside of your mouth with a bunch of mini daggers and spears. Oh, and you cant forget the dorky bib you're wearing...it has a rather humbling effect. Back to this morning now. Today's dental assistant was like a really enthusiastic version of Julia Roberts.

It was so not cool. The worst part was when you have to spit into that vac-cup after they polish your teeth...I never got into the spitting mode when I was a little boy and I am a very unskilled spitter...the first rinse went fine, but the second time around something somehow went awfully wrong. I somehow missed the cup or overpowered the vacuum. I honestly have no idea what happened because it was over before I knew it had started. Anyway. Water had splashed on my cute little bib and my shirt and pretty much everything else in the room. I was left in a sort of shell-shocked state and for all I know was probably drooling too. Not a banner appointment to say the least. well, I don't have another for six months, so I don't have to worry....

Ahh yes, and tea. You see, one of my friends have me this ginormous bag of loose tea for Christmas. And it had just sat there patiently in the cabinet until this morning. My dad brought a really pretty blue teapot back from the east coast for my mom. But more importantly, it has a strainer. So I made tea. Ok. before I go into this I want to say that I'm not one of those tea people. I rarely drink it because I hate waiting for the water to boil. But this tea was really good and...I don't really know how to say...pure maybe? Hmm I don't know. One thing I do know is tat is was really calming and cozy. To the extent that I'm kind of suspicious as to what it actually is made of. But honestly, who cares. I'm felling great. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Oh, and my family finally had its Epiphany celebration. (we had to delay it cuz of the east coast trip) And I got more presents. Which is awesome. I got the normal toys and gadgets. But the highlights were: these super comfy socks, a Redsox World Series Champions t-shirt, and a bunch of awesome underwear. My mom told me she was actually going to buy me pink underwear, so that I would be more carful about not letting it ever show. But I have no shame. And she knew that. She didn't buy them. Actually, I do have shame and I probably would have returned them.

And just so you people who don't know me don't get the wrong idea, I'm not one of those people who purposely wears their pants with half their rear hanging out. I just don't wear my pants up past my belly button--that's where my parents think they should be--I wear them normally. I'm really skinny, though, so when I forget or am too lazy to put a belt on I am in a constant battle with gravity; hitching and pulling and holding up. So. I don't like showing my underwear, it is called  UNDERwear for a reason! And I think its time for a change of topic....that got way more in-depth then I had planned. I just thought an explanation was on order and then...Oh why do I have to be so awkward? I apologize if it was a little TMI-y for you. But I mean, we're past second grade potty humor giggles here, right? This was meant to be a mature discussion about a controversial topic, and if you took it to be anything different, you have warped mind and you should be ashamed of yourself! Ok, I'm starting to think I'm just digging myself into a deeper hole now and that I should have shut up before I had started talking, but its too late now.

So. Nice weather, eh?

Bye.

Home. And crazy shoes.

Just really quick. After ten days braving the Artic Circle, (otherwise known as New England) my dad and sister have returned home to paradise. It is really cliché, but you honestly don't know what you have until its gone. I missed them, and its super nice to have them back. Also, I think I've given up on my idea of ditching everything and moving to Nebraska. At least for now. I was seriously thinking about doing it, but I've decided that I like everyone here too much. I just hope I made the right one. It was a super neat idea, though, so maybe I'll tell about it later.

Ok, now for the crazy shoes. Yesterday I got an email from the team director saying that we HAD to send some orders for new Nike's. The two models that I needed to get were low on color options, so I ended up with this:

Nike-Free-Hyperfeel-Mens-Running-Shoe-596249_707_A

....Crazy is good, right? These shoes can be my wild side. And hey, when I'm running at night people will definitely be able to see me. I'm really excited about these shoes. They're supposed to be really lightweight and comfortable. Thanks NIKE!!!!

Oops, got to go to dinner.

Talk to you tomorrow,

-Thomas

In Memoriam

As many of you know, my youngest sister had a twin, Marie Rose, who died of SIDS when she was 6 weeks old. Her half-anniversary was a few days back and I was thinking of about her and stuff quite a lot last night and this was the result....

I remember holding you with my arm
You were a delicate unopened bud
Small yet still filled with beauty and charm
The sun glistening on your morning dew.
My arm was the procurator of  your needs
It was there to keep you from falling
Falling amongst the harmful thorns and weeds
And you my arm did keep from all harm.
But my bud, oh my most beautiful rose
How quickly those times changed
The cold it came in and the dew it froze
Why did the frost come to one so young?
My perfect of little rose buds was taken
Even before her dew burned off
Here I felt for a moment forsaken
How could she be gone before bloom?
But I came to realize ere long the right
That more steady arms than mine
Are surely wrapped about her so very tight
And her now open'd petals hold me aloft.
Anyway. She was a lucky duck and didn't have to deal with life, and we are all stuck here plugging away. She never had exams or calculus....life just isn't fair. But she is up there watching out for me and I know that without her help I wouldn't be anywhere close to what I am and that things probably wouldn't be so pretty. So. Thank you,  Rosie! (I'm still somewhat jealous of you, though.  Wanna trade places? You can have my bike....Hmmm is that a no? Well, you're not as much of a suckah as Mary Kate is...I thought you were supposed to be twins....What? Mary Kate wont be a suckah when she's a saint? Well that'll be the day....So long, and I cant wait to see you again...By the bye, do ya think you could ask if things could be sped up for me?....No again?...Well you really are still a sister then....Bbye!)
Okay, I've got lots of work to do, so I guess I'll be getting going. (sorry for the weirdness of this post, my head is still really stuffed up)

Getting excited.

So. Yesterday I went to the pool and chatted with our swim team's new head coach. Part of the time we just talked about getting certified and all that boring stuff, but most of the time we were talking about the direction we want the team to go in. All I can say is, I'm super excited. When I first joined this particular swim team 7 years ago, it was fun. Like, actually sorta fun. And it was fun, partly because we were good, and partly because we had water polo pizza nights, parties, swim-a-thons, and overall there just seemed to be more of a team spirit. In the past 3-4 years it has gotten really boring, though. We never really did anything new, or fun. And it got quite monotonous. Needless to say, lots of people quit and the team is at the lowest point I've ever seen it. Why am I excited then? Well, if everything goes to plan, this thing is going to be awesome. We're talking separate track and dry land workouts, pizza/movie nights, a mascot, beach days, pier swims, bringing the swim-a-thon back, water polo nights, family BBQs, an actual water polo team, team meets, and most importantly, more structure to the groups so everyone gets more attention. Really anything to make it more of a team sport. Because ultimately that's what sports are about: bringing communities together through common interest. Anyway. In case you haven't already noticed, I'm really excited about this. Hopefully it all works out.

Ah, I'm having an inner struggle with myself right now because there's a container of peppermint bark on the table next to me that seems to be calling me to it.....WILL NOT BREAK DOWN....oh but just think about that silky-smooth chocolate with crunchy peppermint bits to top it off, its practically heaven....NO, I WONT DO IT, NO MATTER GOOD IT IS, THEY WONT OVERPOWER ME!....ahhhh but Thomas, just one tiny-winey piece wont do any harm and then another, and another, and another. NEVER!!!!!!!!! Ok now I'm just torturing myself, so I think I'll stop.

Oh, and last night one of my friends and I somehow got into a late night insult contest. And the last insult she sent me was probably longer than any blog post I've ever done. It would have been impressive, 'cept for the fact that it was counterfeit and she didn't even write it. She got it off the internet. Lame. Anyway, it was actually really funny because she didn't read the whole thing before she sent it to me, and one of the lines was, "You are a disease, you puerile one-handed..." I literally laughed out loud. It was so wrongly perfect and she had no idea.....

Ok, bye for now.

-Thomas, who pretty much is a walking disease at this point...XD

Girls and Guys.

I'm sure you all remember being a little kid, having a band of buddies, and getting into arguments (if you can call them that) with another such band of the opposite sex about how boys are better than girls, or vice versa. In fact, these arguments continue to pop up in my group of friends. They are, however, much less frequent and (I hope) more of a joking tribute to the bygone battles of our childhood than anything else.

These 'arguments' were never rational, though, and so the question remains. Which is better. A guy or a girl? Well, I don't know the answer for sure, but I'll list the 3 possible answers in order of likelihood. First, that man and woman are equally good, just in different ways. Second, that woman are better. And third, that men are better.

The thing is, though, the more I think of it, the more I think woman are, on the whole, a lot better off than men. It would make sense too. Cant you just see God after he created Adam....'Ohhh well that didn't turn out exactly right. That human is much too controlled by his passions, not very beautiful, and it pretty low on common sense. I guess its time for take two.' The result of 'take two' was Eve. A more beautiful and even-emotioned (and I mean real emotions and not the general perception of 'emotional') person; a person less like an animal and more like God.

That being said, I know both men and woman have strengths and weaknesses both physically and spiritually. I don't know why, but it just seems like girls are less easily truly bad people. And I have no idea where I'm going with this now. It all seemed so good up here and now that its been morphed from thoughts into written sentences, it seems like its going everywhere and nowhere all at once. Ugh!

Anyway, on a not totally unrelated subject, the other day I was driving with my sister and she said that I was pretty much a girl. She was joking and it wasn't meant to be mean. She was referring to the fact that I like "girly" stuff. I like Jane Austen and other romantic novels.  I not only read such books, but I watch mini-series editions of them and really like lots of them. I like what some would consider to be girly music (don't worry, its not 1D...just generally more soft). But is there a problem with that? I don't think so. Romantic 'girly' novels are about humans and their emotions, how people interact. They are not only heartwarming; they not only help illustrate and illuminate the mystery that is the human soul, they teach us about ourselves and provide priceless lessons. Man is the most polarizing and captivating piece in man's world, so what could be more interesting than to learn about how he operates? I think its sad that these books have been stereotyped. They aren't girly books, they aren't boy-ish books, they are HUMAN books. And just because more girls have the sense to see their worth doesn't change that.

I mean seriously, do you think its a coincidence that girls normally have a better understanding of the people around them than guys are? I don't think so. Girls always know what we guys are up to, and we guys are totally clueless and oblivious. I think that it somewhat has to do with the fact that girls are just created differently, but that it also has to do with the fact that they know and appreciate an important aspect of humanity that us guys, more often than not, simply don't. So. I'm really not girly. I'm human. I love bro time, and I like doing the stupid crazy things that guys do. But I also see the good in some "girly" things, so I like them too. I don't think its crazy, and I'm not ashamed of it.

Well, I guess that's all for today peoples. I'm still sick and the sky is still up and I have no idea what the heck I'm doing right now, but whatever. I have God, so everything is good. Oh but I did get a new toy...an inhaler. Yeah, they think I might have sports induced asthma. I seriously doubt it, but if that's my problem, I'd be so happy because a quick, easy fix, and everything would be good again. In the meantime, I have a cough and head cold, too, so everything is stuffed up. But like I said, life is good!

Take care y'all, and don't get run over by a trash truck, cuz I don't think that would be overly pleasant.
(sorry, I don't know where that came from.....see above section on stuffed up everything)

Calling all prayer warriors.

Just a quick prayer request. One of the families that is part of my community has a toddler who doctors think might have an awful neurological disease that forms lumps on one's body and is not at all healthy. You may remember seeing this a little while back....

....Yes, that is the same, or similar to, the disease they fear he has. So please pray that it is not and that they find out what's up.

Thanks,

Thomas

So apperently the people at Apple are Whovians.

So my friend was messing with Siri last night and he asked her how tall she was. This is what he got:

"Siriously?"

...Anyway. I thought that was funny and I know many of my friends are Who-y people, so I thought I'd share it with you. It appears that if you are a Whovian and don't have an iphone yet, you HAVE to buy one now. Yet another brilliant move by Apple.

I also keep randomly finding out that my friends are Whovers. Like, people who I wouldn't normally expect to be. (and yes, that was the second awful pun I've made in this short-lived post...don't worry, I'm gonna stop) I've to the conclusion, then, that that show is an evil conspiracy. It takes otherwise somewhat-normal-people, and turns them into these crazed fanatics. It is a disease. And it must be stopped. At once.  =P I dunno, maybe I'm just jealous that I never got into it because it definitely  would be a great time killer.

On a totally different topic, I think y'all know that I've once again cut out all sweets in my diet. Its been pretty torturous. Now is literally THE WORST time to do it. There is a huge bucket of delicious homemade caramel corn in the kitchen, Garradelli squares in the living-room, random leftover Christmas candy ALL OVER THE PLACE, and my mom bought a bunch of old-fashioned peppermint sticks. The ones that are like a foot wide and an inch think. I love peppermint. And my little sibs leave theirs lying around all the time, so when I'm cleaning up I find them all over the place. It's literally like the "Water, water everywhere..." plight of a thirsting, shipwrecked sailor...."Candy, Candy everywhere, but not a bite to eat." Oh, I lead such a rough life.

Oh, and for those of you that started school this week, I pity you. No, I really do. Seriously though, school ain't all that bad. Some subjects are actually quite fun and interesting. Plus, you get to see people more, so whatever. That being said, I cant wait till summer break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Thomas, who is off to the Doctor's. No, not THAT Doctor.....the boring, awful kind.

It's been too long. Too, too long.

Phew! Things have been crazy these past couple days. Let me start with yesterday. Well, actually yesterday morning because it was the highlight of the day. I went to the grocery store with my mom and I bought some gum. Pretty awesome, huh? It is. Anyway. I think I told you that I gave up all sweets as a resolution, (a.k.a everything that tastes good) so the new thing is gum. I have a stash of it in my room. Its glorious. And you can have no idea how much my lil' sibs will do for some of it. Its quite a fortuitous situation. Back to the highlight now. As I was saying, I got some gum, but its no ordinary gum. You see, as I opened it, a quote appeared. A JANE AUSTEN quote, no less. That was a first. And it was for some reason really cool. In a weird way though.

The rest of the day was quite awful. It was spent roofing. I cant complain about having to spend hours and hours perched precariously on a sloped 'roof, or having to drive in 718 nails with my own bare hands hand; but my precious Austen-quoted pack of gum got majorly smushed.

Then came the highlight of the night: MacDonald's while watching The Emperor's New Groove. I love that movie so much. During the café scene, I had to tear myself away because I was going to a dance. I went. Although it started off really slow, it warmed up and in the end it turned out nicely. I met this girl from Slovakia there, and she had an interesting name. I think it was Leka. But I don't really care about her name, it was her English that stood out. It was amazingly good. And that got me to thinking about how awesome it would be to know a second language. It would be pretty sweet. The best thing, though, would be if you got a few of your close friends to learn it with you. Just think about some the situations you could get out of that one. First off, you could just really really mess people, but think about how entertaining it would be if you were hanging out with a person who was just over-the-top obnoxious and annoying, and you just start talking about how much you don't like hanging out with him (or her) in a second language. It would be hilarious, especially because when people don't know what's on, they usually just awkwardly smile and nod. One would only use this in extreme circumstances, of course, when the person really is a total jerk and he deserves it. Imagine it....it would almost make dealing with those kind of people bearable.*

Today was pretty busy as well. It naturally started with getting up at a reasonable hour to get ready for mass started at 6:30 when my brother's alarm went off. He had a horse show he had to get to, so he is partially forgiven. Mass was nice, of course, and then I headed over to the horse show. It was the first one I'd ever gone to. It was sorta neat, actually. His big jumps got cancelled, so that was LAME, but you cant have everything.

After the viewing of beautiful, but very strong smelling half-ton animals, it off for some big sister time at Buffalo Wild Wings. For those of you who aren't sports people, its a chain of sports bars. we watch a playoff game, and her team won, so she was happy. It was my first time going there, and my description of it runs as follows: a ton of wide screens, and ton of wide, beer-guzzling men. Its pretty much a sports fan's heaven though....there are a few square seating sections, but they aren't sectioned off by walls, exactly....you are just surrounded by walls of TVs and there are bucket loads of good, unhealthy food.

And on that note, I think I shall take my leave because its dinner time...how convenient. :)

So see ya later! And in the meantime, don't get yourself lost.

-Thomas, who doesn't even know what he just said.

*Insert something, anything*

So folks, today......is a day. The question is, is it a good day, a bad day, or a so-so day. I have no idea. I honestly don't even know how a day can be good or bad. They just are. And there's nothing we can do about it. I mean, do any normal people ever get up in the morning and say, I am going to make today a bad day!....I think not. They just happen. Its weird. And I don't get it.

Anyway. I seriously have no idea why the heck I'm here right now because I have literally nothing to talk about. Hmmmm I wonder if there is any noticeable difference between italicized periods and normal ones. Lets find out........nope, I guess not. What about commas? ,,,,,,,,, Ohhhh, well that's interesting. There is.  You live and you learn. The problem with me is that pretty much everything I learn is, well, kind of useless. Like seriously though: "Hey guys, guess what? There's a noticeable difference between italicized commas and regular ones." To which the reply is, "Wow Thomas that's so cool....not. Dude, no one CARES." No one cares, that is, but me. Its a sad plight. :'''(])

Okay, I'm done here for now. Maybe I'll be back later. We'll see.

A small fulfillment.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that journey I embarked on nearly one month ago; that sometimes seemingly endless journey, has come to its end. I have read David Copperfield in its entirety. And I think it was a good journey, at that. Dickens' plot and characters are really complex, though many of them (the characters) are quite extreme. They are very often angelically good, or devilishly bad, which makes for little personal development. But there are always at least a couple characters who undergo, at the very worst, interesting developments and, at the very best, quite extraordinary ones. All in all, it was a good book, but it was, at times, hopelessly long.

I am the only one who compares oneself to the characters and tries to find which character is the most like oneself in the books one reads? I do it all the time, and its not only enjoyable, but often also profitable. You can truly get to know yourself through reading novels. In order to realistically compare yourself  to someone, you must look inside and try to find who you really are. More often than not, fictional characters personalities are either too good, or too bad for you be able to say, Oh that's me all the way! But in the end everyone truly good lives for and is driven by common motives and ideals, and the same goes everyone truly evil. The only difference, then, is in the magnitude of a person's good and the magnitude of a person' evil. We are all vectors, (sorry, but I really like physics right now) and there are only two possible directions: for good and against good, but there are innumerable magnitudes, in either direction. And that is why you can compare yourself to so many characters; why you can ask yourself, Am I the hero, to a lesser degree? Or the villain, to a lesser degree? Do I really live for others, as I hope I do? Or deep down inside am I doing everything for myself? Questions such as these can be life changing; and they certainly give you a better understanding of who you really are . Novels are so powerful in so many different ways.

Anyway. I am somewhat proud of the fact that I finished it without despairing, and now I will have to find another book to help me pass the time and perk up.

Ugh! I feel like an over-puffed puffy Cheeto that is being nibbled on, junky and overstretched: slowly being pierced by sharp teeth and deteriorating, both outwardly and inwardly. And I think the two are related. While I'm complaining, I might as well tell y'all about my shin. More particularly, my right shin. It is pretty much entirely covered in dark, ugly, and painful bruises. All I can say is that I now know  why soccer players wear shin guards.

I cannot believe Christmas was already over a week ago. It seems so recent and yet, upon further thought, so very many things have both happened and not happened since that wonderful day. I wonder how heaven's equivalent of time will pass, or whether it will pass at all. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get there if I want to find out and I still have a boatload of work to do in that department, so there's not much use in it. Ok, I'm really just thinking out loud now. Don't I have the strangest of minds?

Catch ya later,

-Thomas

New Year's resolutions.

Ahem. So yes, earlier today I told y'all not to make any resolutions because you will almost undoubtedly fail. And that was good advice because when you would have hypothetically--because aren't making any--FAILED, it would make you depressed and you would have fallen into psychopathic habits and probably become addicted to something somewhere along the way.  You will probably be surprised, then, when I tell you that I have a whole list of NY's resolutions. But you shouldn't be. Because I am not you, and I don't fail, I conquer! Plus, (hypothetically, of course) when I do fail, I don't care enough to get depressed because I'm always depressed...everything is so dreadfully BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.

So. Here is my list.

1. To eat more chikin'.

2. To eat no candy.

3. To eat nothing sweetly unhealthy.

4. To eat everything un-sweetly unhealthy.

5. To be more nice to some people.

6. To be more mean to some people.

7. To not gain any weight.

8. To get healthy.

9. To  get going.

10. To be always improving.

11. To stop talking so much.

12. To think before I open my mouth.

13. To talk a ton.

14. To ship off all the annoying people to China or somewhere else very vey far away.

Two of those were actually real, and if you can guess them, you get...well, nothing, but let's pretend.

Oh, and this blog has now spanned across the days of two years. Doesn't that sound impressive? I wonder when my last post will be....

Also, if you want to think of a big number, think about the number of books it possible to write before there aren't anymore combinations left....really try to think about it....it has to be finite because all of its components are finite, but its quite mindboggling.

Ok. Now that I've left you with sufficiently boggled-up minds, I think I'll take my leave. You're welcome. :D

-Thomas

I bet you cant guess what this one's gonna be.....

Make this year better than any previous ones, and don't make any new year's resolutions*, because you're just going to fail. And on that encouraging note, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Thomas

*Assuming that you already have the resolution to do your best, of course.
