Wait really?

For those of you who just awakened from a coma and happened to come across this blog randomly before doing anything else, today is New Year's Eve. Or in other words, today is the last day of 2013. Its been quite a year. It seems just yesterday we were at the beginning of 2013, and yet so many things have happened. When this year started, the Pope had a different name, the world's most interesting baby hadn't been born, (I never really got what the big deal was)  Obama had just beat Romney in the elections, the country was still reeling from the tragedy in Sandy Hook, the Boston Marathon bombing hadn't taken place, and Oscar Pristorious was still a hero. And these are just a few of the events that defined 2013.

And the craziness and change wasn't just at the global level. When I look at where I was as a person at the beginning of this year, and compare it to who I am now, I see how different everything is. At this time a year ago, I was a newly turned 16 and I knew I was so mature. I could handle anything and everything, or so I thought. I had just been asked to be part of a newly-formed triathlon team, yet I had no idea where it was going to take me. As January turned to February, I was living and training me head off. As it turned out, I had taken both my life and my training to an extreme that I later found out wasn't good for me. In both cases I had taken things too far too fast. God and my mom told me that I had to change something in my life, and tendonitis made me change something in my training. I did make a change in what was, at the time, the biggest part of my life. It was a hard change to make: it felt like I was tearing my existence in half. But I knew it the right thing to do and that it had to be made. It was painful at first,  I literally cried after I made it. But because it was the right thing to do, things got better. And I realized how immature and especially naïve I really was/am; how I have so much work to do; how unstable I am; how much more I have to accomplish, before I can truly say that I am a Christian man.

2013, although it hasn't all been smooth sailing, it has been, on the whole, one of excitement and growth. I have, even though I haven't been blessed with good health, been gifted experiences at the age of 16 that many never experience in a lifetime. I got to travel halfway around the world, I to represent my country, and I got to train at the Olympic Training Center. I began this year as a swimmer, I begin this next one as a swim coach. I have traveled with my family and friends to some the most beautiful places on earth. God has blessed me in so many ways, I cant even begin to list them all.

So, though this year hasn't been all buttercups and daisies, it has been an extraordinary one and I think I am closer to my creator than I was at its beginning, and that's all that matters/I could ask for.

Here's to 2014! May it bring us all closer to fulfilling our purpose in life. May we each take the opportunities that are presented before us to grow in love for each other. And may we be grateful to God, not only for each year that he gives us, but each day as well, and may it bring the U.S. a ton of medals

Wishing you a happy and blessed new year!....be sure to drink a lot of champagne...or Martinelli's

Go green with packing bubbles.

....and nothing else. Before I get into that, though, I have one semi-complaint and a little health update. Okay, last night I was planning on going to see Walter Mitty again with my sister and some friends, but my other sister brought home her fiancé, so we had to have a 'family dinner' and it took forever. The result was that we couldn't go. Oh well. Another time, I guess. Plus, it was a nice dinner and I love my family, so whatever.

I spent all morning at the doctor's office. Again. And then another hunk of time waiting to get blood drawn. Again. Its not much fun, but hopefully these tests will at least get us on the right track....here's to keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't know about you, but I do almost all my Christmas shopping online. That means that when the presents come, they come in boxes. And inside the boxes are packing bubbles. The thing, though, is that they don't really use bubbles anymore, they use big air cylinder thingies.

I bring this up because I think they're probably the only 'green' advancement that is as good, or maybe even better, as their un-green predecessors. Take plastic cutlery. The forks are so flimsy, I'm somewhat surprised when they can get through and successfully 'fork' dishes such as mac'n cheese. Speaking of dishes, the plates too. They seems to dissolve when one puts anything on it more substantial than white rice. The list goes on and on: the bags rip, the boxes bend, and the detergents don't deter anything but cleanliness. Among this heap of eco failures there stands, alone on a golden pedestal, the packing bubble-turned cylinder.

In fact, I think I like the eco packing cylinders more than the old school bubble-wrap. Bubble-wrap is classic, but the BOOM you get from the cylinders is way better than the lame little pops you got from the bubble-wrap as a little kid. And with the cylinders you can get a variety of sounds, depending on how you let the air out. Its amazing. And I love it. Yes, I still pop the packing air. Yes, I need to grow up. But no, I don't want to.

Also, I think I would probably die from depression if toast and jam got banned. A nicely browned piece of sourdough bread, with homemade raspberry jam....that's the food I'm going to eat after the second coming.....random much? Yes, but that's just how I am, so you'll just have to live with it. :P

I need to get to work, so I'll be seeing you later. Well, probably not, but whatever.....I Hate technicalities.

Groggy eyes and two hands.

I for some reason woke up really early this morning, and even though I have no idea what in the heck I'm going to write about, I thought I would come on here and kill some time.

I would do a post on time, but I already did that. So, what do to. Hmmmmm

Oh, I could talk about what I did all day Friday. Yes, I think I shall.

So, you know how I went to see that amazing movie on Thursday? Well, when I got home that night, my mom informed me that we were going to some museum. And because it was the Pasadena, we had to get up at a little after 7 in the morning.

As you might imagine, that didn't get things off to a good start. When my dad came in to wake me up, I opened my eyes and started screaming/whining, WHY? WHY? WHYYYYYYYYY? over and over again. When we got to the museum, (the Huntington Library was the name, I think) we were greeted by one of the museum directors, who was taking us on a private tour. She gave us an opening talk in which she described all the museum, including a description of their Chinese garden. (the biggest such garden outside of Beijing) She told us that all the stuff was manufactured in, and imported from,  China. I had a little bit of an attitude because the early morning, so all that was going through my head was, Oh really? Wow! Made in China. No way. Sorry to break this to you, my rich lady, but a majority of the stuff we normal people buy is made in China, so that's really not all that exciting.

We then got started off on our tour. Which was of a gallery dedicated to Junipero Serra and that was pretty interesting. We then went to an artificial tropical rainforest, and then we went to the Chinese garden. It was pretty cool. It was like you were living in one big cup of tea, it smelled that good. And when we got to the part with the buildings, it was like being on the set of Kung Fu Panda.

After that we went to the Library, which was probably the highlight of the trip because it had a ton of cool books and manuscripts, and I had two hands for about a half an hour. It was a weird but cool experience. I decided that I liked one hand better, though, because it felt more normal, so I ditched having two hand and left.

And that was my Fri.

Happy Sunday in the octave of Christmas!!!!

Post dramatic press syndrome.

Ahhh there was a ton of drama in my last post. So this post will be utterly free from any sort of drama whatsoever. Anyway. Today I did end up going ice skating. It was pretty fun and my ankles are now pretty sore. One of my friends got into trouble seemingly every other minute, though, so I spent much of the time disassociating myself from him. (if you are one of the group, I bet you can guess who it was) It was actually pretty funny to watch because the snobby figure skater instructor was the person mad at him, and she was being a jerk, so my friend was a jerk back. It was a mini war. And it was epic. Okay, maybe not, but it was highly entertaining.

Also, I am going into indentured servitude all of next week because my mom and dad want to get a bunch of 'home improvement' done. Its really a bummer because lots of my friends start school a week from Monday, so I am essentially missing the rest of their break. I'm not entirely happy about that one.

In case you haven't caught on yet, I am suffering from PDPS and this post will therefore be extremely scatterbrained.

I hate the color combination of red and white because its bland, uninteresting, and highly unoriginal,  yet I absolutely love candy canes. Just goes to show you cant judge candy by its color.

Oh, and on Thurs. I went and saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with a few friends and I think its the best movie I've seen in the theater. I don't see many movies in the theater, but, even so, it was an awesome and delightful movie. I liked it so much, I think I'm going to go see it again. It was that good. Seriously guys, you have to go see this movie.

There is a dance going on right now that I kind of wanted to go to, but my mom wanted us to have a quiet night for once, so we weren't allowed to go. Instead, I get to stay home and blog for you. Isn't just wonderful?

I think Californians should use palm trees instead of firs for Christmas trees. I mean, they are much more likely to been around in Israel during Christ's birth than evergreens. Seriously though. What do evergreens have to do with the birth of Christ? Furthermore and more importantly, think about the amount of presents you could fit under palm tree. Ok, I'm kidding here. Its just so much fun to say something really controversial and insane and then start making arguments that make people think you are being serious. They get all worked up about it. And its sometimes pretty entertaining. The only problem is that I sometimes forget to tell the people I'm just pushing buttons and then in a later conversation I say what I actually think, and then the person I'm talking with is like, Wait. You said that you hated so and so just the other day. And then I have to somewhat awkwardly explain myself.

I'm going on a bike ride tomorrow....yeah, we'll see how that goes.

I love Cheetos, and I need to cut my toenails.

Since I've come to the point where I cant even stay to one subject in a sentence, I also need to STOP

Waiting for the water to boil.

And no, its unfortunately not for tea. I (still) have a staph infection in my adenoids, so I (still) have to do nasal rinsing's. (for more info go to the post list and one of my first posts was on that unpleasant subject)  Anyway. My mom keeps forgetting to buy distilled water so I have to boil it and then let it cool.

So. This brings me to a hopefully short rant. You see, a couple of my friends have been really obnoxious about my being sick lately, and a) because I don't much like serious confrontations and b) because the dude(s) in question probably wouldn't take me seriously, I am going to rant on this my most useful blog. My apologies in advance.

Whenever I go and play pickup sports with them, I say I have to go easy and I take breaks; both because the only way I can convince my mom to let me come is to promise her that I will and because, quite frankly, I need to. The response that I get from two of my friends, in particular, pretty much boils down to: Yeah right, you're just making that up so you don't have to play hard and blah blah blah. It really really annoys and bugs me.

I might be overreacting and in the end it doesn't matter what people think, and they are probably (at least I hope) not being totally serious, but I strongly dislike it when they do it. Let me explain. I have pretty much felt like trash since April. There have been a couple of weeks when I've felt close to good, but on the whole its been consistently bad. And I LOVE being active and love playing hard. I'm a triathlete for pete's sakes. For me its like my body has pinned me down and trapped me in a little cage these past eight months. On a normal day, I cant even shoot hoops for 5 min without my throat flaring up, getting winded, and having pools of awful sticky mucus form in my mouth, let alone go on 11 mile runs and do 2 1/2 hour workouts. That, coupled with the pressure from having sponsors and commitments, is pretty darn frustrating. I feel like I am letting everyone down and yet I have no way of fixing the situation. Add to that the fact that, if I hadn't gotten sick, I would have had a good chance of podiuming at the World Championships and you have the recipe for one super frustrated and discouraged dude. And so, when my friends*, who should normally be helping me through this battle, tell me that they think its all fake, its pretty hurtful and not at all fun. I don't see why just because I put on a smile and try to keep upbeat; just because I keep my struggles and frustrations to myself; just because I love my friends and life so much I wont let my being sick wreck everything; that just because I'm not a wimp, I'm called one.

Ok. Sorry about that drama, but its been heating up for awhile now and in the last few days it really has boiled over. It feels good to complain to the internet. Its very therapeutic. Anyway. I really would appreciate a quick prayer. I know that good heath is hiding, growing somewhere in my future. Its just, not unlike myself, quite stubborn in nature and it doesn't want to boil over into my life. But the man upstairs can move even the most stubborn, so if you could shoot a quick message up to him on my behalf, I would be really thankful for that.

In other news, I still love all my friends and my life, I am hopefully going ice skating tomorrow, and its the 4th day of Christmas.

So I should probably go rinse my nose and get to bed.

Hope this post finds you in good spirits and I promise I'll do a unserious post next time! :D

-Thomas

*I know I would be doing the same if I were in your shoes, so no hard feelings. Plus, I can see why you might think its all fake, but I assure you, its not....I'm just an amazing actor. =P But really. No hard feelings. Its all good.

The spoils of war.

....and I say that both because after opening presents, our living room looked like a bomb site and because I got an instrument of self-torture. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. We should start at the beginning.

Christmas Eve seems like a good place to start, so here we go.....

Nothing really happened until about five in the afternoon, when my mom told my sister to make some Christmas present deliveries. My sister promptly informed me that I had to go help her. So I did. An hour and 15 awkward conversations later, we were done and she brought me to fast food, which sort of made up for dragging me along and making me do all the dirty work. As we drove up do our house, we saw that the rest of the family had decorated the tree without us, so we gave them a pretty hard time. Then it was dinner time and then we watched Its a Wonderful Life. I didn't watch much of it because I had things to get done, but it really is such a good movie.

Up next was the midnight mass. Which I was practically forced/guilt-tripped into serving for it. (I don't much like serving at our parish. For pretty good reasons too...I'll go into that another time.) When I got into the sacristy, I was informed that I was the Master of Ceremonies...my vision of a prayerful and quiet midnight mass...out the window. But it was still nice.

Fast forward to 8:30 in the morning and everyone is getting up. 8:30. I think that is probably a family record or something. Usually the little ones are up at around 6, and so 'sleeping in' was a pretty nice present to begin with. Then the presents were unwrapped. It was a crazy whirl of color, smiles, and joy for about half an hour and it was so amazing. And pretty much the reason it was so amazing was because I got my family pretty much the best presents ever.

Anyway. I came out with what I asked for: a new stationary bike trainer. Pretty lame, I know, but I honestly couldn't think of much of anything else and I'll need it for when I go to college, so yeah. That was from my parents. I got a Patriots hat from one of my brothers, a Patriots jersey from the other, the most amazingly soft and cozy shirt/sweater thing from my sister, a really funny shirt that I'm not going to tell you about because I want to see if my friends get it from my sister and her fiancé, and a boogie board from the little one. Plus all the normal stuff (a bucket load of candy and a bunch of random but cool stocking stuffers) The only things that were missing were my socks and underwear, but my mom said we are doing another present opening session on Little Christmas, so I'm guessing that the yearly highlight of my Christmas will come then.

The rest of the day was spent chillaxing. (I had no idea that was a word..that's really cool, but kind of random.) Christmas dinner was spent at a friend's house. There were 3 large families there, so it was a wee bit crazy. And I only had two really awkward/stupid and hilarious moments, so that was good. It was really nice though, and I gave out the majority of my remaining presents. One of them was pretty funny and at the same time kind of mean. It was for a girl who I think I have mentioned before...she shot me in the eye with a hairband. Anyway. It was pretty great. XD

Oh, and that reminds me. Yesterday I wanted to see how big a bubble I could blow with six pieces of bubble gum in my mouth.....I stopped when a bubble popped and got stuck in my eye. I was a mess, and I felt stupid. But it was surprisingly fun. I am probably going to have sore jaws for the next week or so, though, so I don't recommend it.

All in all it was a really nice Christmas, and I hope y'all had a great day as well. And that you got a ton of presents, because we all know that the 'giving beats receiving' thing is pretty much the greatest lie ever known to mankind. Just kidding. I actually think it does. And that is probably because I have pretty much everything I could possibly want. Besides that mansion in Ireland...If someone gave that to me, giving would definitely beat receiving. ;D

I have a ton of washing up to do*, so I guess that's all folks.

Merry 2nd day of Christmas!!!!!!....my true love didn't gave me 2 turtle doves today...here's to hoping yours did! Although I'm not sure why you'd want them. I don't much like birds...they're gross and somewhat scary......

-Thomas, who may or may not have eaten too much yesterday.

*In England, instead of calling dish soap, dish soap, they call it, washing up liquid. Isn't that cool? It almost doesn't even seem like work anymore when you give it such a nice, cheery name.....I was going to do a post that detailed all the different names for things, but then I didn't. Sorry. I guess y'all will just have to go there if you want to find out what they are. ;)

Its begining to look a lot like Christmas!!!

....Well, as much as it can in California. :( But it definitely is beginning to FEEL like Christmas. Like, a bunch of stressed out people (otherwise known as parents and older siblings) running all over the place, getting last second presents, making last second preparations, and losing their tempers, not every last second... pretty much every second....its times like this where I just want to get last rights and somehow conveniently die. I hate hectic times. Except when I'm the one creating them, of course. ;)

In all seriousness though, I really do love Christmas and the Christmas spirit. At this time of year people are just so much more friendly--its so nice. Oh, and the smiles on people's faces, and the cheerful, Merry Christmases that bring them on--its so heartwarming.

Yesterday, some of my friends and I had the wonderful opportunity to bring both Christmas dinner and presents to three families in need. One of the visits really stands out. We all drove to this awful trailer park. It was trashy and the trailers were extremely small. The mom and dad were on the porch, thanking us to no end and joining in with us as we sang Hark! The Herald Angels Sing! between sobs and tears of joy. It was such a powerfully beautiful moment that I was overwhelmed and teared up a bit....only real men cry.

Its times such as that that make Christmas so special. Those moments in which we bring the love of the newborn Christ to those who need it so very desperately. It can be as simple as a cheerful 'Merry Christmas!' or as complicated as getting Christmas dinner for a needy family, but the end is still the same: to bring a new joy and a new light into peoples lives, just as Jesus brought new joy and light into the world on that cold winter night, over two thousand years ago.

Anyway. After we delivered the stuff to the needy families, we went to a friend's house to make gift bags for needy children, and then had a pizza party. Which was fun, but I kind of was on some kind of high or something and I was totally insane, so if any of the people who were there are reading this, my apologies.

And I was going to go on a rant of some sorts, but I think I'll save that for later. In the meantime, Merry Christmas my friends, and a very happy new year!

Oh, And here's a link to the flash mob that I went to, but barely missed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xagijq3_-s4

....they sounded so good! So its probably a good thing I wasn't there. XD

Feliz Navidad!

Break. Ah, break.

...I'm so loving it right now. Anyway. I WAS on a roll with this blog, and then I missed yesterday. I hope you guys, however unlikely it may be, survived yesterday without any major emotional trauma.

But I was gone pretty much all day yesterday, so I have a somewhat legitimate excuse. I was just sitting down to write a post when a friend called to see if we could hangout at a coffee shop downtown, and after that I was pretty much gone till I got home at 12:30 last night.

And this kind of brings me to a little mini-rant coffee shop lingo. I don't do coffee shops very often, so when I do, I stand looking at the menu and don't know what the heck to order. Its seriously a whole different language. I order one thing, naïvely expecting the something that I think I ordered, and then something totally different comes. I remember one time at Starbucks I ordered something, expecting it to be a blended mocha. All I got for my 7 bucks (ever wonder why they call it StarBUCKS?) was a little cup with some flavored foam in it. I mean, I could have gone home and washed my coffee pot with dish soap and gotten pretty much the same effect.

Yesterday was a great day. For the first part of it I was babysitting with my oldest-best friend. (his little sibs) And we had some pretty amazing Nerf wars. I hadn't done that for years, and it was so much fun. Really, it was. Then there was the coffee shop thing which was really nice and chill. After that there was a holy hour, which was amazing, of course. Ahhh and then there was the caroling party. The caroling was fun, but most of the people didn't open their doors...peeps are so lame nowadays. But the after-party was a ton of fun. And after pretty much everyone left, there was just my brother, another dude, the girls whose house the party was at, and yours truly, talking around the fire pit for about an hour. We had a really great conversation. We talked about books, plays, movies, (I bet you can guess one of them) and college plans. It was nice because the dude that was not my brother and I used to be really close friends, but in recent years, we've gone our separate ways, so to speak and I think having a good conversation with him was a most fortuitous thing.

I was going to talk quite chees-ily about friendship and some other stuff, but my mom just called and told me to do some chores, so I guess I'll be talking to you later.

Adios mi amigos virtuales!.....Spanish one didn't get me very far.....oh well.

Notes. Just random notes.

Yes, my friends, I have absolutely nothing to say. I have absolutely nothing to do either, though, so why not talk about random stuffs? Sounds good to me.

Shall we begin?

A plethora of Christmas presents arrived on the porch yesterday, so I now have to wrap them....I'm wishing that I had gotten everyone books because they are so easy to wrap. Some of the things I got are so oddly shaped, I seriously have no idea how the whole wrapping process is going to go down. So we'll see how that goes.

I'm also feeling rather accomplished because yesterday I sewed buttons on with 66% accuracy. I started at around 2 o'clock....and about an hour, two snapped needles, pricked fingers, a pricked stump, and a mile of thread later, 2 out of 3 of the buttons were in the right spot. I don't think it was at all bad for the first time. And tying the knots with one hand took some major skillage...well, mostly patience, but I can call that a skill, right? And I taught myself a life skill. So its win-win.

What else is new? Hmmmmm.

Oh yeah, I have a new hobby. If you know my big-little brother, you know his laugh. He laughs very much and very hard. Sometimes so hard, in fact, that he makes this quiet croaking sound and his face turns purple-ish red, do to the fact the he is, for a short period of time, suffocating. Well, last night at the dinner table, he made an inappropriate and decently funny joke to me, and subsequently started laughing his 'ead off when I gave a little giggle. I then did, if I can say so myself, a pretty perfect impression of him laughing his 'ead off at his own joke. He got the impression and preceded to increase his laughter in an exponential manner. Something, I must say, that I had previously thought quite impossible. It got to the point that I momentarily thought he was going to choke on himself and die. All I can say is that that turned out to be wishful thinking. But this does bring me to the ultimate goal of my newfound and extremely entertaining hobby. It is, of course, to make my brother choke on his own laughter...preferably while he's riding one of his horses. Oh, and you might be thinking all this is quite harshly inconsiderate, but trust me: he deserves it. Plus, I'm adopted, so who cares? =P

Pretty awesome hobby, huh? Just so you don't get the wrong idea, I really do love my brother a lot. He is really good brother. No, he really is. He just doesn't like to show it too often. And it really is sooooo much fun to make him laugh. Its fun to make anyone laugh, but he's like, on a whole 'notha level.

Seriously though. I think that would be a perfect villain. Like someone who had the power to make people laugh so hard, they kill themselves. It would be really freaky and pretty hard to convict him of anything.....You made him laugh. You are therefore sentenced to life imprisonment without bail. You know, he probably would be pretty much invincible.

In old news, I'm still working my way through David Copperfield.  It seriously gets into one's head. Its kind of like when you are trying to fall asleep, but you just can't....after what seems like eons, the thought that you're NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO FALL ASLEEP AGAIN creeps into your mind, you break into a cold sweat and totally freak out. Seriously. Is this book EVER GOING TO END?

Oh, and that reminds me.

THE END.

Ahhh! The joys of a small community...

Yesterday's physics test situation was just one of the undesirable situations that arise from living in community that is as close-knit and small as the one I happen to be a part of. Today I'm going to elaborate on some more of them. Before I get started though, I just want to say that I absolutely love, and am totally blessed to be a part of, the community that I live in. Like anything though, it has its pros and cons. And because I am in a Grinch-ish mood, we are doing to discus the cons.

So. Let's get started then, shall we?

They say the person(s) who you would least like to meet, at any given moment, is usually the one you end up meeting. Well, the likelihood of that happening increases (it almost seems exponentially) as the population of the said community decreases. As my community is crazy small, its seems that every time I do or say something that isn't meant for a person to hear or see, the afore mentioned person sees it or hears of it.

...Like there was this one time when I couldn't find any of my other running shorts, so I had to wear this awful pair that pretty much had the effect of a baggy mini-skirt. I went on my run around dinner time as to avoid any run-ins (haha...not) with acquaintances. Everything was going fine, until I ran into a family that was out of their evening walk. It wasn't any ordinary family either. The mom was like a living Miss Manners, and the dad was like some kind of stern, puritan patriarch: complete with a beard, scary eyes, and straight-as-a-ramrod countenance. She had a walking shawl on, and he an overcoat. They seriously could have been out of a 19th century artist's painting titled "An evening stroll"....and there I was. In my mini-skirt-shorts. It was kind of embarrassing. But at the sane time funny. I bet the misses almost fainted when I came running 'round the corner.

Oh, and there was that one time when I wanted some excitement while my friend, my brother, and I were having a snack. So I took the can of cookies my brother was holding and ran off with it, making it seem like I wasn't going give them back. Before I knew it, I was sprinting down the side of our local highway with two macho men  hot on my heels. It was like some thing out of a movie and was so much fun. But then a mom of some of my friends (ones that I was just getting to know at the time) drove by....you should have seen her face.....I wonder what she thinks of me.

Anyway. Things get interesting in our little community. But its all good. I think its probably the best in the world.....I wish some people would get along better sometimes, and there are people who get pretty annoying sometimes, but don't we all?

In other news, there's only one week till Christmas guys! ONE WEEK!! So stoked!
But I realized yesterday that there are a couple of people who still are in need of presents.....just when you think you have everything covered, more people pop into your mind....

Try to stay sane peoples!

Invasion!

.....There must be about 30 college students downstairs. They aren't just ordinary students either, they're all of them prefects. You see, next year, when I'm a freshman, all these people are going to be my arch-nemeseseseses.....awkward.

Anyway. All was going slightly below ok, until my dad brought out some coconut water and started talking about it. Someone eventually asked him why we had 10 cases of it and he had to go on this huge thing about how they sponsored me, London, and my team. Gah! I HATE it when people talk about me...its for some reason really embarrassing when it happens and I just want to curl up into a little ball of solitude. So I did the closest thing I could find. I came up here and stated to type. And that is why you find me here, my friends.

It also doesn't help that my physics teacher is one of the prefects. And that fact isn't helped by the fact that I was supposed to turn in a test to him by now.....You know, I really love my community, but sometimes there are just too many connections.....maybe I'll write on that tomorrow....hmmmm.

Okay, I think I'm off to spy and take notes on the weaknesses of my future enemies....otherwise known as socializing. Plus, I have a feeling dessert it about to be served. :D

And I think its about time to throw in a cheesy quote...

DON"T JUST SURVIVE. EXCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....and that was brought to you by Priuses from around the world. (Sorry. Inside joke)

Because you read this blog, I both know you have a lot of free time to kill and that you most probably need to get a life. Although I haven't quite come up with UPRLC (the universal perfect ready-made life creator) yet, I do have a time killing solution....another blog. This blog is written by an aspiring cartoon artist/writer and comedian. She is quite possibly one the funniest persons I have ever come into contact with. Anyway. She is fresh out of college (in my older sister's class) and is trying to make a headway with her career and furthering her audience helps with that. So, without further adieu, I give you, Seize the Absurd*:
http://seizetheabsurd.blogspot.com/
I deify you not to roar!....what is that from? Ahhhh I cant remember. Oh well.

So. Hope you enjoy!

Oh, got to go to mass....

Take care,

Thomas.

*note of caution: it is, well, quite absurd....she is quite the character. so be prepared for insanity. XD

Christmas Shopping Conquered. Bam!

...Thanks to Amazon. And I got it all done in about 2 hours. If online shopping didn't exist I would probably never buy presents. I hate malls THAT much. Anyway. I'm super stoked. They say giving beats receiving, I while I'm still kind of torn about that one, (giving presents is great, but getting them is pretty noice too :D) giving definitely beats buying stuff for oneself. Seriously. When I spend money on me, most of the time I'm quite the miser, but the money just flows through my fingers when I'm buying presents.....I think I probably bought presents for half the population of Santa Paula.

You know, it probably helps that I don't technically work for the money I have, so it isn't too dear to me.....ok, I'm just rubbing it in now.

And since this morning's post was actually bonded by a common theme, I have to make it up to you by having a really random rest of this one....

I am so incredibly bored right now. Because I'm not training because there's still something wrong with me. I'm going to get a re-culture done tomorrow and then I'm off to an infectious disease specialist....we'll see how that goes....you can no idea what I would give to be actually healthy again....its been 8 freaking months and I'm so over it.

Oh. I am still reading David Copperfield. When is it going to end? Its an enjoyable story, but man....I feel like I've been reading it forever, (35 chapters in) and I still have 350 pages left.....

Sorry about the typos in last post....I do all this on about 2/5ths of my 14-inch laptop screen, (still haven't replaced the screen....procrastination is my middle name) so the font is quite small and I mess quite a few of them...I'll fix them after I post this.

My sister is sitting across from me with her black laptop. She has black glasses, dark hair, and a black suit on.....creepy.

I meanwhile am still in my PJs.....its been that kind of day.

If I had to choose between watching any given action movie or the BBC miniseries of Our Mutual Friend, it would be the latter...hands down, no questions asked. I loved that adaptation so much! I want to watch again. We used to own it, but I cant find it anywhere and I haven't watched it for years. I want to see if its as good as I remembered it being...maybe someone will end up having an extra Christmas present. ;)

Ok. I think I'm going to stop this craziness before y'all lose faith in.......everything. XD

Bbye!

Oh, Opinions.

Good morning readers! (or evening, or night, depending on when you see this. Today's is a more serious topic, so I am going to attempt to stay seriously serious....yeah, we'll see how that goes.

So. Opinions. I love them. Especially when they differ. But sadly, they don't differ much nowadays. We, the fish, are all supposed to float down the mainstream that society has conveniently created for us. And to swim against it would mean disaster; to have one's own opinion, and not the one prescribed by the men and woman upstairs, is extreme, crazy, and can even be terrorism. Instead, one must know that oneself, power, money, and pleasure are the greatest goods. This 'me first' mentality is the reason we see so many crimes committed against the very nature of humanity, nowadays, be they condoned or condemned by the rest of society.

'Ours is a progressive age! Human rights, freedom, society, and progress are at their respective heights!' So the people in charge claim. But can that really be? Can a society in which the 'elite few' brainwash and manipulate the masses into having whatever opinion they want them to; in which the very spirit and mental attitude of the people is not their own; in which your average Joe is scared to make his own opinions and cannot express them for fear of hurting someone's feelings? I think not.

I don't think I have to go in-depth into what the opinion lie is. Everyone has experienced it, and nearly everyone has been affected by it. How many times have you bent your opinion on a book, or a movie, so as to be more in line with the people you are talking with?..... you don't want to hurt your friend's feelings.....he really likes that movie. I know I have, and I see it happening all the time. But the question is: whether your friend would be more hurt by you having a different opinion or by finding out that you don't feel comfortable telling him or her what you really think?

That was an example of the  'opinion lie' in its smallest scale. (We all know what it is on bigger scales and it is best to not talk about them when uncalled for.) It is the 'elite few's' greatest defense against the truth. They know that opinions, especially differing opinions, unveil the TRUTH. For, when one is faced with an opinion that differs from one's own, one must truly examine one's own and root out all the kinks and gaps. More often than not, when in doing so, one finds un-undoable kinks and unbridgeable gaps in one's opinion. One is therefore moved to a change in opinion, a change that is more reconcilable with the truth, the truth that is implanted in each and every human being.

But if one 'knows' that its rude and un-thoughtful to express a differing opinion, then the truth will be forever trapped in the darkness. The peoples at the top of the people-chain know this. Its the devil's oldest and most fruitful (no pun intended...ok maybe just a little bit) trick: taking an evil, and making it appear as a good. i.e. we are being considerate by not expressing ourselves.

I guess the moral of the story is: you can't trust the system. (there goes my being serious...) No but seriously. Its important to express your opinion in a loving and understating way to all who will listen.  So do so.

.....ahhhh this would make a pretty good emergency sermon, huh?

So sorry about the preachy-preachy attitude of this post and all my other ones....they really are at least as much for me as they are for you.

Happy crazy few days before Christmas!!!!!!!

Just Quickly....

....A complaint observation. Today was my cousin's birfday. His 21st birfday, no less. (Happy b-day man! even though I know you don't read this) So we naturally went to our town's pub. I was a good boy and didn't have anything to drink except Sprite. Not because I'm a good boy, though....because I don't very much like alcohol. So. It was pretty fun. But when we decided we wanted to go, we didn't go.  Because there was a tab that needed to be figured out. There were about 15 of us TAC people, and it took those brilliant intellectuals over half an hour to get the tab taken care of.  The waiter was super nice about it...he only made one comment. I just wanted to go hide in a corner. At one point one of the guys' (while he was breaking down the chemical components of the receipt, most probably....I mean what else could have taken him so long?) billiard thingamabob-stick-things fell with a huge crash, (he had propped it on the side of the table so he could study the receipt) so of course everyone was like, c'mon Joe. He was like, Its wasn't me, it was the stick!. Then someone started yelling about how a stick was a so-and-so kind of being and so it therefore couldn't have passions....I was just thinking a) Am I really going to become one of these? and b) Can I shoot myself, like right now?....not because I'm going to TAC next year....it was just the moment....it was mortifying....

Seriously though. This receipt ordeal has cemented my belief that if everyone went to TAC (or a similar school) the world would stop spinning. I mean, we people are so impractical. Nothing would ever get done. When I was small, I thought everyone should go to TAC, but really, its not for everyone. Its for a certain special kind of person (....translated: weird people.)  And us weird people need the driven-to-get-my-career-and-degree-and-get-rich-and-going-on-with-life people to do the practical stuff while we have fun pondering receipts and theories and generally doing nothing topographically (I know that meaning doesn't exactly fit, but whatever..it sounds cool) important.

Have a big post coming up foe y'all tomorrow, so stay tuned.....

-Thomas, who really needs to get going with his Christmas shopping.

Complaints About.....Everything.

My apologies in advance, but I really need to get some thingies out.

My first complaint victim is Peter Jackson. Here is my open letter to him:
Seriously man, I know you read this blog; I know you're listening. So. Listen up: You had me waiting for this movie for a whole year. So it had better have been amazing. And, to put it simply, it wasn't. Although it did have its moments, (the Master, the Necromancer, and Smaug, among others) you totally butchered a pleasant and fun story.

Mr. Jackson, your back round is in special effects, not story telling, and that really was painfully clear this time around. You are trying (with emphasis on the TRYING) to make a simple adventure story into an epic, and woefully failing. The special effects were amazing and riveting, but they made it so the movie was more about them then the actual story. The Hobbit isn't about special effects . Its a heartwarming story filled with courage and adventure. You changed the story so very much, my friend, and you couldn't make your story fit and meld together well because you are, as I have previously mentioned, not a storyteller. What really makes this annoying is that its all about the money. If it was just you being naïve and making un-purposeful mistakes, that might have made this disgustingness pardonable, but we all know that money is behind all this. That's what makes it so annoying.

Signed,

A disappointed Hobbit fan.*

Moving on.....

Ok. Yesterday I had to go to a baptism and at the reception there were no people my age. I had to mingle with adults. And I thought I had coped pretty well. Until, as I was leaving, I looked at my hand. (no, that's not a typo;)) It was all blue....I had been unknowingly mangling and tearing apart a blue paper cup all conversation long. Ugh. Why? Just why?

Then this morning, after a late-ish night, my parents made me get up and serve the early morning mass. That's already pretty bad. But on top of that, they had to go to a later mass at a different church, so my brothers and I had to walk ALL THE WAY HOME.

Oh, and awkward hugs. 'Nuff said, I think.

I was going to go on this huge rant about opinions, but I think I'll save that for later--It needs a whole post to itself. So instead I'm quickly going to hate on the 'insert' button. Or rather, the dude who designed my keyboard and put it directly above the 'backspace' button. You see, I am an awful typist. So when I am writing or emailing I make a ton of typos. The 'backspace' button and I are therefore very well acquainted. You have no idea how many emails I have 'edited' whilst having 'insert' on. Its usually not THAT bad because the nice little red underline usually pops up, I disable 'insert' and I just have to start my editing over again...not all that bad. The worst is when you add a modifier to a sentence to make it either more clear or more funny and it is the exact same length as the object it's modifying....the nice red stuff doesn't pop up and the recipient if left with a modifier and no object in need of modification....and is totally confused and/or is left thinking that I'm a total idiot.....You have no idea........the insert button......We hates it me precious, ahhhh yes, we hates it very much....can we squeeeeeeeeeze it, me precious?

Okay. Enough complaining for today. It is, after all, Gaudate Sunday, so I should be happy, you should be happy, everyone should be happy. BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and wear pink)

-Thomas

*Really wasn't that that bad....it was just that bad.....I have mixed feelings about it.

A Day of Potency.

Today has the potential to be a great day. If all the plans become acts, there will be a pizza-making/eating party, the new hobbit movie, and adoration. Sounds good to me. Making today's potency into actuality is contingent on so many different components though. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

So. Today is a day, in case you were wondering. The sky is a hazy blue, in case you were wondering. The world is not flat, in case you were wondering. (But the moon is.) My mom is a mom and my dad is a dad, in case you were wondering. Gah, for some reason I just cant think of anything to say.  What shall I do? What can I do? Will I ever be able to write about something, anything again?.....I think I'm having a post 100 posts hangover or something because I cant seem to do much of anything right now.

I just wrote something, but then deleted it because humanity is stupid and inconvenient and it could have been taken the wrong way.  Grrrrrrrrr

Ok. I've decided that this post has absolutely no potency, so I shall end it now.....I'll try to make up for it next time. Sorry!

I Love My Life!

One my sponsors just solved all my Christmas problems, but I'm not allowed to say why. But I can say that I am really so happy and lucky!

And I was told to share this with you:

Thanks so much @PowerBar and @CAF!

(my apologies about the spandex)

Top 5 Most Painful Moments. And Other Stuff.

We first world people don't really suffer that much. Well, at least physically. So here is my list of the top 5 most painful (common, for the most part) experiences we first world-ers have to live with.

1a. Getting out of bed after a late night.
1b. Stubbing one's toe when its really cold and your toe is almost, but not quite, numb.
2. Taking a shower without hot water. (big family problem)
3. Opening the fridge door, seeing a soda can, getting stoked, turning it around, and finding that its V8. (dieting parents problem)
4. Yawning with a cold sore.
5. Waking up from a nap.

Pretty rough, huh?

We really do have it so easy. (Like, when it seems inconvenient to walk from the living room to the kitchen to get something to eat, that's pretty telling.) And yet we all (at least I do) complain so much. We are lazy, soft, and spoiled individuals, my friends.

Also, we are less than two weeks away from Christmas. And I still don't know what I want and still don't know what to get people. I procrastinate way too much guys.

Oh yeah, please keep your fingers crossed because some friends and I are trying to pull off a kind of crazy idea (and so, of course its mine) this weekend. I'll tell you what it is after it happens.

And my sister is crying 'Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,' so I should probably go and see what's up.

Happy feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

Bye for now,

-Thomas

So. Here It Is.

*Pirates theme song*

Yes, ladies, gentlemen, ladies that aren't ladies, gentlemen that aren't gentlemen; honored guests, not-so-honored guests who-randomly-stumbled-upon-this-blog-whilst-on-a-blogger-rampage; and the NSA: welcome to the 100th post on TRI-4life!

Before I get started, there is a point that needs clearing up. I know that on your list it says that this is the 99th post. But in actuality, its the 100th. You see, about two months back, there was a post that I wasn't happy about, so I reverted it to a draft a few days publishing it. This is, indeed, the 100th post.

As I said yesterday, I'm not going to do the 100 things thing. I think I'm making the right call. There is a slight problem, though. I am, while typing these very words, totally at a loss as to what I am going to write about. Well, thank-you stuff is always good, so I guess I'll start with some acknowledgments and if I'm lucky, I'll come up with something during that process.

Okay. I should probably start with my parents because they are, as much as I hate to admit it, pretty darn important. So. Momster and Popster, you guys are amazing parents. And, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here and this blog most definitely wouldn't be here. So give yourselves a pat on the back: your son is a blogger; your lives as parents are therefore fulfilled. ;P No but really, I couldn't have asked for better parents, you guys are right up there with the best.

Now for the significant others who are in someway responsible for this blog being up....

My team director, who told me to do it, thank you!

My friend, who made me see that blogging could be fun and cool. (K, maybe not exactly cool, but I think ya get it.) Anyway. Before I saw your blog, I thought of having to blog as a necessary evil due to my contract. And I might still have not gotten it up yet, but for your blog. So thanks a bunch!

And anyone else that I might have forgotten, thanks! I certainly couldn't have done it without you!

Now for all you readers......

Thanks so much! I really hope you have enjoyed reading this as much as I have writing it....

Hmmmm, I still don't know what to do, so I guess I'll talk a little bit about how much I love doing this. You guys have no idea. It really is so nice. I can go on here and forget about life, complain about life, talk about life, and gush about life. (although the last one doesn't happen too often) I can pretty much do whatever I want, and its just really liberating and freakishly great. I guess you could say I'm attached to it; for some its coffee, others drugs, and for me its blogging.

I cant think of anything to say, so I guess I'll start doing the 100 things thing. But I probably won't finish it, which is actually kind of fitting come to think of it, because I doubt any of you have read all 100 of them.

1. I hate spiders.
2. They still scare me.
3. I scream like a five year old when I find one on me.
4. Which makes things awkward when praying the family rosary.
5. That actually happened last week.
6. I love rollercoasters.
7. I've broken four bones.
8. Including my left arm twice.
9. Talk about awkward.
10.I am more of a drama guy than an action guy. (as far as movies go)
11. I co-own the world record for the longest FB chat.
12. When I was six, my life plan was to marry three girls, have them conveniently die, (so like marry one have her die, then marry the next one. etc) and then become a priest.
13. I think its flawed now.
14. But it was the only solution that I could think of because I loved three girls with all my heart and my mom wanted me to become a priest.
15. I was a strange child.
16. I still am strange.
17 I am still waiting for a princess to come save me.
18. Seem to have got that one a bit backwards.
20. Oh well.
21. (the all important birthday)...I don't really like alcohol that much though, so not really.
22. Oh, that awful Taylor Swift song.
23. Hah! I just got it stuck in your head.
24. I like making fun of her.
25. I've never been DQ'd in a swim meet.
26. But I've should have.
27. I coached for the first time yesterday.
28. This is going to be interesting.
29. I'm crossing my fingers.
30. I think you already probably know too much about me.
31. When I was small, my name was Thomasina Ballerina, and I had a sparkly ballerina suit with red white and blue sparkles, if I remember correctly
33. I had two older sisters.
34. I just skipped 32.
35. I cried when my big little brother was born because he was a boy...they had too great an influence over me.
36. I think it was an omen of things to come though...if you know my brother, you'll know why. =P
37. I am convinced my little brother corrupted me.
38. I used to be such a nice person.
39. I should go finish my school.
40. Because I am so over doing this.
41. The end.

Hey Look!

...this is, crazily enough, my 99th post. That happened pretty quickly. According to some insanely tedious and complex mathematical calculations that I performed, (don't try them, they are most probably beyond your abilities) this means that the next post is going to be the 100th.

So get ready for a super-ultra-mega-post, either tomorrow or Thursday.....I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with it though. One of my friends did '100 things you didn't know about me' or something like that, and I was thinking about doing that, but then I realized that 100 things is a lot and the truth about me would inevitably come out. The recoil from the truth coming out, would at the very least make me a social outcast, so yeah. Plus, numbering 100 things? That might, just might be more tedious than the calculations I had to perform to prove that this coming up post is, indeed and unquestionably, the 100th post of this, my attempt of a blog.

Ohhhh got to go to mass.

Don't kill yourself with anticipation.

...like that would ever happen.

Doesn't this look fun?

Yesterday was Sun. and so, of course, there was Football. That, coupled with the cold spell that is currently icing (worked out nicely for Disney, eh?) the entire nation, ('cept Florida maybe) made the games quite interesting. They were playing in the conditions that football is meant to be played. It was epic. Here is my favorite picture:

Lions Eagles Football

"Do I really get paid millions to do this?"

I'm jealous. I mean, these guys get paid up 24 million bucks (+endorsements) to have bro-brawls in the snow. Where can I find a signup sheet?

Yet Another Weekend Gone; Yet Another Painful Week Ahead.

Seriously though. How is time flying by so quickly? And how do the days seem so dreadfully long? It seems just yesterday I was wishing y'all a happy Dec. and now we are already about a third of the way through it. My last classes of the semester are tomorrow. So many things have happened and changed. And yet so many things haven't. Life is a paradox that I haven't quite figured out. And this brings us back to time again because time, although it is in itself a paradox, is the only constant (besides God, of course) we have that helps us solve the paradox of life. Which seems paradoxical in nature as well. In fact, pretty much everything we come to know is least a little paradoxical, it seems. I guess in the end, everything boils down to and flows through the ultimate paradox, God.

Time really is a funny thing though. It is said to be the greatest healer of hurts, but it honestly can be the opposite too. My theory is that the person who came up with that saying was of two things: either a really forgiving person, or a person with a case of dementia. I mean, isn't is possible that time can also be the worst infection for a wounded heart? I imagine if something happened that really deeply hurt me, time could just as soon be the spoon that stirs the pot of sadness and hatred, keeping it from letting the fire of love burn it off; as it could be the hole drilled in the side, letting that awful mess drain out the pot and making love's work much, much easier. It all depends on the person who is hurt's state and disposition. (Luckily, that's never happened to me, so I've never had a problem with forgiving people.....It also probably helps that I know that the people I know put up with a lot, so when things don't go exactly as planned, I know I owe them one....or two....or three...and so on)

Sorry people, here I am thinking out loud again. Seriously. This kind of thing gets me into so much trouble. Sometimes, in fact, LOTS of times, I wish I could take my foot and shove it up my mouth. Permanently.

That would, however, make triathloning both inconvenient and difficult, so I think you all will have to live with my mouth until I find a solution. Maybe a should think before I open it.....but think about how boring thinking before talking would make things, I say. And nothing interesting would happen because I probably wouldn't say much of anything. Oh whatever.

Anyhoo. I'm wondering if anyone saw NBC's LIVE production of The Sound of Music last Thursday. And if so, if it was any good. I've seen some clips of it on YouTube, and it seems well done, but its only the singing parts and as Carrie Underwood played Maria, I'm somewhat skeptical of the non-singing parts, or in other words, the parts when she has to actually act. If you've ever seen the movie Soul Surfer, you'll know why.  But even if it wasn't great, it was still a cool idea. And a little bit crazy. Performing a musical once, live on television, with the whole world as an audience. Yeah, kinda crazy, if you ask me. But also brilliant because it probably made it so much more compelling to watch. Which is probably why it got the highest rating NBC had gotten on a Thursday night (excluding sports) since '09.

^that was random.

Well, that's all for now.

I think I Have Found a Future Vacation House.

.....Or neighborhood.  For when I am extremely rich and famous. I still haven't figured out why or how I'm going to be extremely rich and famous. But it is most definitely going to happen.
So. Here it is:

Isn't that just beautifully amazing? It almost seems as if its out of a movie set. Its like another world. And I want to be in that other world. Anyway. The name of the place is Bibury and its somewhere in England. You may be wondering why its only going to be my vacation house, and my answer is this:

 ....in the Fall....

....and the garden.....

....That's the future main estate.....its in Ireland. And its AMAZING!.....Its kind of like how I imagined Pemberley to be.

I'll probably have apartments in Milan and London as well. Ok. Now I'm Just dreaming. (as if I wasn't before) Sorry, my head is kind of spinning right now because my football team just won one of the craziest football games I've ever watched. I nearly had a heart attack.

The dance last night was fine....I didn't really know the people so that's not the best, but the entertainment was pretty funny.

I really have no thoughts right now, so you've escaped reading about yet another one of my boring and most probably incomprehensible (because of my writing...at least I like to think that) crazy ideas.

But the Hobbit (sorry, too lazy to italicize that for ya) is coming out this week guys. This week!!!!! LET ME REPEAT: THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(yep, I'm a little bit excited)

Type to you later!

-Thomas, for whom the most realistic hope of getting rich lies in wining the lotto....so yeah.

A Seminar And Sappiness +extras

So I went to a seminar last night. And it was pretty good.....a little chaotic at times, but all in all it was fine. We didn't talk about what I wanted to talk about (which was the main point of the book, of course ;) very much though, so that wasn't great. I also have this problem with seminars because I like to talk more about what the author was trying convey and more theoretical stuff whereas it seems like a lot of the people like talking about color of the sky etc..... its blue, duh! Ok, its usually not that bad, but I think you get the point. Anyway. When they talk about all the factual boring stuff, I quickly lose interest and my mind goes elsewhere....last night that 'going elsewhere' was helped because I was sitting next to a friend who was trying to make yo mamma jokes the whole time. All in all it was definitely above average though, (the seminar, NOT the yo mamma jokes) and the book was pretty really good.

Ok. And I love my friends so much. Last night one of them came up to me and said 'Hah! Thomas, I just realized that you shouldn't use and public restrooms because the guys on the signs have two arms.' I know you're probably thinking that they are really mean and that I'm crazy for liking them....maybe I am, but that's a conversation for another day. Anyway. This kind of humor seems to be all of my (guy) friends favorite....every time I make a mistake when I'm playing sports, they're like, 'Two hands Thomas, use both your hands' And you know what the funny thing is? I love it and absolutely wouldn't have it any other way. And when people forget that I don't have two hands and ask me to do something (one of those stupid hand clap things or something) that is logistically impossible to do with one hand.....that's the best. I just crack up on the inside when that happens. Sometimes its hard not to crack up on the outside when they start apologizing. Hahah, its the best.

Its that kind of treatment that has made me the person that I am. No one has ever cut corners for me or given me breaks. To me, I'm no different than anyone else. And the reason for that is: no one has ever treated me like I'm different. Growing up, I had to do the same amount of chores as my brothers and sisters. In fact, it seemed like more. But again, that is a different conversation. You have no idea how thankful I am for that, and its makes me sad to see parents who baby their 'disabled' kids....they think they are helping them, but in reality all they are doing is crippling them. And my friends and siblings as well. You guys are and were the reason I feel no different than any other person. If you didn't pick on me, that would label me as different and so in my mind I would be different as well. But I'm not, thanks to you guys.

Honestly, the way I see it, I'm really not even physically different....not anymore than anyone else is.....I have an undersized, oddly shaped arm....That boy over there has an oversized stomach, and that girl has an oddly shaped face. There's really no difference. And, me being the vain person that I am, would much rather have a deformed arm rather than a deformed face.* (or belly, or that matter)

END SAPPY PART.

Now for the extras.

I went to the mall to do a flash mob. But we missed it. Then I went to a skate exhibition, and then I played football. Now, I shall go get ready for a dance.

GB!

1st Fridays And Other Stuffs.

1st Fridays are pretty much insane. Even if its just a normal 1st Friday. But today is going to be nuts because its St. Nicks day (no, I quite surprisingly did not get coals this time....I did 2 years ago though....it was the best*) and there's a seminar. So, from about 8:30 till 10 tonight, I will be occupied. Speaking of crazy, there's a Christmas dance tomorrow and that'll be super fun too. In short, I'm excited for this weekend. Because, as we all know, crazy equals fun and fun equals good.

Its still incredibly cold outside. Note, outside......my wonderful miracle working mother got the heater working.....so now its nice and toasty.  Its another matter on the other side of out front door. This other dance that I was going to go to was cancelled due to inclement weather. Since when has that happened? Its annoying. I like cool weather and sweaters and such, but this is too cold for the likes of me....at least in the shade.....the sun is super bright, so if one stands in it, it makes the cold survivable.

I get cold easily. During lifeguard camp, I would shiver so hard its a wonder I have any teeth left. Some of my family seem to be able to survive and even thrive in this weather that chills me to and through the bones. And I think the reason for my problems is that I am built like a super-model. And no, not a guy super model. I don't mean 0% body fat, roughly translated as skin and muscles, I mean the other kind....0% body fat and skin and bones....I mean the kind that strut around in the most ridiculous looking dresses. And so the core of my body has almost no insulation. Which is great for living in Southern California, but SoCal seems to have packed its bags and been booted out by its cold and mean great-grandmother, Indiana, so my body type is not at the present time optimal.....All I want for Christmas is a survival layer....or maybe two.

Wellllllllllllll, I guess that's all folks....Y'all get a half day today.

Happy St. Nick's!!!!

I thought I Lived In California.

Its freezing! Literally freezing. Like, so cold that if it had rained last night it wouldn't have rained, it would have snowed. I think the low for last night was 22 degrees. 22 freaking degrees! I thought I lived in SoCal, the land of palm trees and sunshine; the land of swimsuits and bro-tanks; the land of Malibu and The Beach Boys. But now I live in the land of wishing I had UGGs, a trench coat, those funny things you put on your ears that look like warm, fluffy headphones, and a scarf.  Seriously, what is this? Pretty much my goal in life right now in to not let my toes go numb. It also doesn't help that our heater is out of order at the present, for reasons that I think are best to be kept privet.

So. I had this really deep, interesting topic that I was going to write on, but it has escaped my mind, so you guys can now breathe a long and deep cumulative sigh of relief.

Instead I'm just going to be randomly writing different combinations of letters for the next few.

Here we go.

Did you know that you, the readers (I least I hope its readers and reader) of this blog are extremely privileged. You see, if you didn't read the whole of my posts and just looked at the titles of them on some social media site, you most probably would either be in a state of shock right now, or will have died of a heart attack. Are you beginning to see what I'm getting at? Think of the last two titles this blog.....I hate waiting so I'll give them to you now: 'I got engaged last night' and 'Embarking on a journey (and babies)'

That was totally by accident. And I only realized the problem after it was too late. For all I know, people might have gotten the impression that I was involved in some sort of scandal, and had eloped with my soon to be wife and a pair of twins. But you the faithful readers know that that is not the case. I must say it is a somewhat awkward position for me, though.....I can just see meeting one of the people that I don't really know, but somehow am connected to on social media foe the first time....Oh hi Thomas, I thought you had gone off to Ireland or something with your wife, its good to meet you though!.....yeah, that would be awkward.

And that reminds me. A little while back, a friend told me that I seem to have an awfully large propensity for getting into awkward situations. I guess she, not surprisingly...she one of those people who is like ALWAYS right, was correct. I mean, a couple weeks ago I got into an extremely awkward situation because my brother was shooting people with a wristband at a party. These situations, although you'd think I would be a pro of handling them by now, still leave me a in a sort of dazed state asking the questions, What? Why? Howww? Me?

Oh, my 'journey' is going along rather nicely so far. I'm about 200 pages into it and its much much better than Bleak House. I still am under the impression that Dickens was paid by the word though.

Ok, school beckons, and, as I am a slave of duty, ;) I shall now take me leave.....my new favorite saying is,  If thinking about being industrious made one industrious, I would get so much done.

..Its quite perfect, I think.

Oh, and I was going to rant about how annoying it is that google automatically shares these posts to google+, but its too late now. Whatever.

Wishing you all a very therapeutic Thursday....don't ask me what that means.

-Thomas

Embarking On a Journey. (and babies)

Hello. Yes, its me. Again. Today for some reason is just a bloggy day. Part of it may be that I'm finding it hard to find motivation to do my school. And that in turn may partly be due to the fact that my mom is taking care of 6 extra little kids. (their mom just had the seventh) To make things even worse, they're all blond and incredibly cute. All these facts combined with an awful case of senioritis, have made it incredibly difficult to get much of anything done.

*brief period in which I get my favorite little kid a whole pack of cookies*

....I'm going to be such a wonderful parent. :D

Speaking of little kids, there is a couple-to-few-month-old baby that I have practically adopted. Every time his grandma takes him to daily mass, I hold him afterwards until one or the other of us leaves. His name is Oliver and he is one of those wonderful babies that just trusts everyone and cozies up on your chest and around your neck. Its one of the best feelings. I mean, here is a person who's life you literally hold in your hands (or hand, in my case) and in return they give you total trust...I think holding a baby is one of the most touching and warming experiences one can have the pleasure of having in this world.....until they throw up all over you, JK

And I can only imagine *sdfghjkqwerghjdfcxsde45rde4waQW...brought to you by my favorite little kid...he was 'making up stuff'* jbvnmzxsaqwjrtpryu...and that, according to him, is how you spell his name. (John) The way kids spell is so much more interesting than the way we do. Ok, what was I say? Ahh yes! Imagine...how much more amazing holding one's own baby is. You are not only holding the life of a person in your hands, but also tangibly holding both part of you and the product of the love you have for God through the love you have for the person in life that you value above all others. When else can you tangibly hold those two wonderfully intangible things in your hands? Never.

Ok. And now for a totally random Catholic tangent. And its not about abortion....I know what you were thinking. Its about how thankful we should be to our priests. (no matter how long or bad or both their sermons are) A lot is made of their sacrificing matrimonial happiness, and rightly so. But I think people concentrate a lot more of a certain aspect of that sacrifice than they have to and too little on the sacrifice of having no children. They don't get to hold their children in their hands, watch them grow up, graduate, and start their own families in the same way our parents do. It is a huge sacrifice and the service that they do us is too great to put into words, so we really need to be thankful, appreciate, and support them in their courageous lives.

And now for the journey part. (It was going to be longer, but I spent a lot more time on the other part of this post, so you're lucky.) I have to read David Copperfield for the literature course that I'm taking. I'm somewhat daunted. Both because our copy of it is 1200+ pages long, and because I've had mixed experiences with Dickens. I loved the BCC mini-series of Our Mutual Friend and want to read it. I also loved A Tale of Two Cities. But Bleak House was, well rather bleak and boring to me and I couldn't get into it.....that might have been because I figured out the plot way too early and it wasn't worth plodding through another 600 pages to prove a was right. So. We'll see how it goes. Its gonna be long, so it better be enjoyable.

Wish me luck!

-Thomas, who is going to try to start on that daunting journey that is Dickens.  The only thing that comforts him is that daunting journeys, if they end well, usually tend to be the most rewarding.

- bnmhjkl (And John, who helped me out with the typing when yours truly got tired....that's why its better than usual.)

I Got Engaged Last Night.

Like, to be married engaged. In a dream. Or probably more appropriately, a nightmare. The last thing I remember is my godmother running up to me screaming, You are whhhaaaaatttt? My guess is that it didn't end well, because my godmother wants me to become a priest, I think. And so, because my sister's engagement is most definitely messing with my subconscious and causing it most unnecessary trauma, I have come to the conclusion that my sister should call it off. =P But it was seriously a weird dream.

Two exciting things have happened to me lately, so I might as well share them with you....

First, its pretty much official that I'm going to be an assistant coach for the swim team that I swim with....not sure if its public new though, so don't tell anyone about it.  (soon its going to be, swam with...its a mixed bag of emotions) I'm not really sure how to feel about it. Its exciting, but at the same time a little daunting and a little sad. I mean, I'm going to be in charge of about 20 little kids, and its on me to make sure they become the best swimmers they can possibly be. All I can say is, this is gonna be interesting. And about the sad part. As much as I hate to admit it, if I hadn't joined HVA I would in no way be where I am in life. Swimming for them for the past 7 years has been a huge part of my life, and its going to be strange being on the 'other' side.

Second, I got the formal invite to be on the CAF Elite Team again and a tentative race schedule. 2014 will bring me to Austin, Dallas, Chicago, San Diego, and Edmonton (Canada.) As well as possibly some additional international races. I'm super excited to see what this next year has rolled up its sleeve and I'm hoping with all my might that I can get healthy and stay healthy this time around. I'm also really humbled to be asked to be on the team again. The team is full a of great athletes, national champions, world champions, and word record holders...its an honor to wear the same uniform with them. And I also want to thank all of the awesome sponsors that signed on for a second year--we obviously couldn't do this without your support. (you can check them out at the 'sponsors and supporters' tab) To sum up: I'm super thankful and super stoked!

I guess I might as well share a picture of the team:
"A skinny little white kid hanging with a bunch of studs

....Be thankful I didn't do one of the ones in the spandex race kits.

I also finished Out of the Silent Planet last night, and it was amazing. Lewis takes the reader on an intellectual roller coaster. He makes you think he is trying to get one point across and you think you have everything figured out, but then your ideas are totally shaken up when he takes you around a sharp bend and when all the dust settles, you realize you were wrong and have a entirely new idea of what the author is trying to teach you. Its crazy and wonderful at the same time.

Bedsides that, life is just plugging along at its boring, normal pace. So I guess that's it.

Happy plugging along!

-Thomas, who is at the present a confused person and who really needs to figure stuffs out.

I had an idea...

But now I seem to have lost it. So I guess this will be another boring news post...

My little sister's friend just got a new pair shoes, I still hate Blues. The sky is up, and the ground is down. Unless, of course, you are reading this post whilst laying in a inverted hammock.....please don't ask me what that was supposed to mean...I don't really know.

I got shot in the eye by either my friend or my friend's hairband yesterday, depending on how you look at it. I was sitting calmly in a coffee shop, talking to another friend, when it suddenly gave the surface of my eyeball a rather sharp and painful massage. On second thought, massage is probably not the word I was looking for. Something along the lines of, piercing extraterrestrially-inflicted impalement, would have been better.

Speaking of extraterrestrial. C.S. Lewis is a god. And I just started reading his space trilogy, which involves, of course, extraterrestrial thingies. Anyway. I'm loving him and his writing. I think the mark of a truly good writer is the ability to turn common, uninteresting things into compelling ideas. Lewis is a master at that. One particular instance is in the beginning of the book: its just common dialogue, but Lewis somehow gets you on the edge of your seat by talking about how one of the guys is opening a wine bottle. (or actually, opening it in installments) Its just amazing!

Oh, and I just remembered what I was going to write about. So I shall touch upon it now. Today, for one of my subjects, I was supposed to write a 45min. "essay." I say "essay" because the particular curriculum that I use doesn't seem to think that high school-aged people aren't supposed to be able to analyze texts and make clear arguments. The topic of my "essay" was practically 'put into your own words one of the conversion stories you read last week.' Yeah, great essay topic. And when they do want an actual argumentative paper, most of the time you just have to put in your own words what an author said. And, if it is a big paper, they say, 'write an outline. Be sure to include a,b,c, and d.' My question is, what's the point of writing an outline if you give me one? To sum up: all, or maybe I should say most, of my writing assignments bore me to death.

But I thought of something today. You see, my mom, who grades my stuffs,  didn't read the stories. So I just turned one of the guys that I had read about into a totally different character and wrote a totally made up, but way more interesting conversion story about Tim Staples. It made it so much better. I got three pages of writing in, and it was actually kind of fun and definitely a lot more interesting. I did go 10 min. overtime, but I did do a little bit extra. I mean, they were expecting me to write about a story that I had read and they gave 45 min, so I think its just fine to give an extra 10 or so min. because I not only had to write about it, I had to make it up while doing so. It was kind of bizarre, it involved Ft. Minor, rapping, poetry, and The Bible.

Oh yeah, my sister got home yesterday and her ring is pretty awesome. In fact....wait a min....

'Marge and Bobby'

All I can say is that I am going to be hard pressed to up the ante on that one Bobby, but I will. I most definitely will. ;)

Take care!

Thomas, who has decided that he is both happy and excited about the engagement.

News. Big News.

So apparently my sister just got engaged. Like, to be married engaged. All I san say is, finally. =P I honestly don't know how to react. Should I be happy, relieved, sad, scared? Should I celebrate or mourn? Oh, I just hate decisions. Anyway. I suppose at this point I should say that I'm happy for them and that they are such a wonderful couple and that they are going to have the cutest babies etc. Hah! That reminds me, I'm gonna be an uncle guys. Is THAT COOL OR WHAT? So, yeah. My sister is engaged. Its kinda weird.

In other news, its Dec. already. What happened to 2013? It was just like boom, bang, flash, and it was gone. But at the same time so many things have happened. All I can say is that time is a weird thing.

And last night was just about the best time I've had in ages. You see, I was really bummed out because break, up to that point, had been really lame because my awesome friend who organizes everything had to ditch and go to Arizona, of all places. And honestly, last night started out pretty lame. My friend and I just biked over to our two other buddies' house and helped them with their chores. Then we all went down to main street and chilled on a bench....still pretty lame. It was getting dark and we were deciding what to do next, when someone was like, we should make pizza! Then I was like, yes! And then we all biked up to my house. To make things even better, my parents were gone, so everything would be a surprise for them. One of my friends made the dough, one of them was the toppings fryer, one of them was the preparer, and I made the sauce. It worked out perfectly. They were so good. We went crazy. There were stuffed crusts, thin crusts, buttered and seasoned crusts. It was amazing. But the highlight of the night wasn't even the pizza

It happened like this. The doughmaker friend made an insane amount of dough. (If you know my bros, I bet you can guess which one he is.) like enough for 8 or 9 pizzas. We decided we weren't gonna make that many, so there was a ton of extra dough. There was extra bacon as well. And beside the bacon there was a pan filled with boiling bacon/sausage fat in it. So I took a bit of bacon, rolled it up in the dough, and plopped it in the pan. The result was the best-tasting-thing-pretty-much-ever. I made a bunch of them and they were our appetizers. Just imagine a unsweetened doughnut/funnel cake just out of the fryer. With bacon in it. And cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. They were the best. And I must say, I'm a genius. ;)

Anyway. It was amazing. And after we cleaned the kitchen, we went to another friend's house and chilled late into the night.

I love my friends so much. But I'm starting to realize that my dream of everybody getting along well probably isn't possible. Its the annoying truth. People will be people. That being said, I want to give a shout out to a certain person who's efforts in combining two of the three or four clicks that I hang out with, have been awesome and because they've been so great, (your efforts) this semester has been great as well. And thanks for putting up with all of our oddities. Your trooper-ness never ceases to amaze me.

The end.

Happy First Sunday of Advent peoples!

So I did get on...a Spin on Thanksgiving.

...because my family and the guests are on a walk and I'm at home doing the dishes (well, I finished them...sorta)

Anyway.

Because most people, when they write on Thanksgiving, are thankful and mushy or boring or both. And because I have so much to be thankful for that its impossible to put it into words, I am going to write on why Thanksgiving is the WORST holiday. Its different. I'm different. So lets start.

Ok. Before I start, so you don't get the wrong idea, this isn't serious and I think that the core idea of Thanksgiving (giving thanks to God) is a both good and important one.

That being said...

The most common misconception about Thanksgiving is "OOOOOhhh the food is so great!!"

If the meal is a traditional one, I would say that that statement is utter and complete rubbish.

Seriously. Turkey is nothing but dried-out chicken* on 'roids (I honestly don't get why the U.S anti-doping agency hasn't outlawed this holiday. I mean, humans are on the same level as animals, right?  So why don't we get the same treatment? Why bust Lance, when you don't bust the turkeys in  turkey runs at rodeos and such?) On other holidays, you get prime rib or filet mignon. Thanksgiving? Yo here buddy, here's a juiced-up chicken.

And Yams? Nuff said.

Stuffing is, well, stuffing.

Pies are kind of gross....the crusts...ewww. (I had a pack of Smarties for dessert)

Bread and mashed potatoes? The best parts of Thanksgiving dinner. But they really aren't exclusive to the holiday.

So I guess that 'the food is so great' statement has been twisted because a) there is too much of it and b) because Americans are big fat gluttons.

To sum up: We slave away all day long in order to make too much food, then we eat too much food, and are left without a thing to be thankful for because we are sick and there are mountains of dishes awaiting judgment in the kitchen. Well, I guess there is one thing to be thankful for....its almost over. =P

Come to think of it, the leftovers are probably the best thing about Thanksgiving. Playing second fiddle to its aftermath? That in itself pretty much proves that it is by far the worst of the major holidays.

Well, the nomads have made their return, so I should probably attempt to socialize....wish me luck!

And believe it or not, the Smartie part was true. I'm a sad individual.

 Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

-Thomas

*Just in case mom reads this: You make the turkey and all the other odd Thanksgiving dishes much more than edible. That was the juiciest, (no pun intended....although them thighs were pretty massive ;)) tastiest turkey ever! I really don't know how you manage to produce such an abundance of quality food in one day. You truly are amazing.

Books and a Hike.

So this morning I got lost in the book. Like seriously lost. You know like when you start reading a book and then you 'wake up' hours later. I started reading at 7:30 and before I knew it it was 11 and I had to get ready for mass. I love when that happens. And, at least for me, that never happens with movies. After about 3 hours I start to fall asleep. What I'm trying to say is that we've all had those books that we just cant put down and stay up practically all night until we finish it, whereas with movies its almost impossible to stay up all night watching them without losing interest and nodding off to sleep, esp. when one is watching movies by oneself.

Ok. Why is that? I think what makes a good book more interesting and thrilling than a movie (and therefore waaaaaaaaay better) is the fact the when we watch a movie, we are bystanders; that is, all we are doing is experiencing someone else's creation in a rather superficial way. When we 'get into' a book though, our minds and the author's mind collaborate and intertwine to create an entire universe. Creating a universe (even if one is merely a copilot) takes a considerable amount of active thought. I guess I'd say, then, that the reasons we become more emotionally invested, if you will, in books rather than movies are a) we are at all times actively thinking and therefore occupied and b) that since our reading experience is party created by us, and because we all love ourselves and things we make, we become attached to it.....and that's why books are way better than movies. Don't get me wrong though, I love movies....its just books are, well, better and special and yeah.

On a entirely different and random note, I went on a hike (which was on the ranch that I spent my young younger years) with a family of family friends and parts of my family. I wanted to just stay at home and read or have a friend over, but I guilt tripped myself into going. It stated out great--this crazy hillbilly guy told that there was a bear in the creak we were hiking up. After dealing with my little sister, (who isn't exactly the hiking type) we finally got to our destination. Ohhhh it was so dreamy and beautiful.....all those childhood memories. Which were pretty much, I was a hillbilly. It was great. Oh, and did I mention the legions upon legions of biting gnats? Getting eaten alive was just the way I wanted to spend my afternoon. What happened to making the right decisions making one happy?

It wasn't all that bad, actually. Its just fun to complain. We didn't see the bear, but I wasn't joking about the flies. Grrrrrrrrr

I guess that's it for now.

And as I wont be posting anything tomorrow, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!

Oh, and I nearly forgot. We finally got a new car!!! We so needed it! And its not just a lame one. I'm happy! (and thankful)

Hands Tied Behind My Back....

Or I guess I should probably modify that to, "hand tied behind my back" but that's irrelevant. The bottom line is that I will (most probably) from now until I graduate from college, have limited internet time. My amazingly second chancy parents* have disconnected my computer from our network. So my previously un-limited internet time is now most definitely limited. This series of unfortunate events has left me rather shell-shocked and I am in a pretty dazed state. *insert old lady 'wat' meme*

You know, I really should have seen this coming though--I wasted A LOT time on my computer on stuff that I even consider a waste of time and I don't know if my dad, who pretty much thinks that all movies except Collin Firth's Pride and Prejudice are a waste of time, could wrap his mind around the amount of time I wasted on my computer. Come to think of it, he was probably horrified. So. I guess last night his horrification boiled over and he severed the lifeline of 99.9% of my computeral activities, the internet, into bits.

The direct result of this deprivation, of course, is that I wont *sniff, sniff* be able to blog with nearly as much magnitude or frequency. But I assure you that I shall do my best to make sure that the drop off is as small as possible, though it is, I fear, inevitable.....that's your queue to break out sobbing. (I will try to give more bang to the buck, so to speak.)

As painful as it is to admit it, it think that my parents probably made the right choice. I did spend  way too much time on my computer, and this fortuitously un-fortuitous deprivation will give me time to read more and I will have more free time to just be myself, so its all good.

But Thomas, you say, you having more time to be yourself is definitely not a good thing.
Shut up! I reply, you really are heartless. Here I am, deprived of my true love and wallowing in freakish misery, trying to be positive, and all you can do is give me the cold, hard truth? Really?
=P

Anyway. Otherwise I'm doing fine. I dragged my sick self to my classes and they went well. I for some strange reason had one of my giggly moods in physics though...that was interesting.

Oh, and I started To kill a Mockingbird yesterday and I'm loving it so far. The author's writing style is wonderful and the plot is just thickening. So I think I shall go curl up in my bed and delve into the deep south.

I shall have a post on books and other stuffs next time....which will hopefully be sometime in the near future.

BBye!

-Thomas
